Emil is great! He was responsive and easy to work with in the initial planning and did a fabulous job restoring our totally trashed backyard. I have had lots of gardners over the years and could not be more pleased with his work style and abilities. I recommend him wholeheartedly.

Emil worked at my house for a couple of weeks last spring when I had a "huge" landscaping renovation I needed to address. It was overwhelming but Emil was able to break it down into sections and provide ideas, labor and confidence.
Starting with adding compost to the soil and creating a design, Emil paid attention to details and worked methodically through the project. We had a few plantings which we wanted to keep that he had to plan around. He listened carefully to our ideas and preferences while introducing ideas to consider that he thought would increase the attractiveness and earth friendliness of the garden. He located a nursery in our area which specializes in offering plants which are native to our area (the northeast). Just shopping at the nursery with him was fun as we spent about three hours looking at plants he’d seen on their website, discussing the benefits and placement of each plant, and then made a final decision. As this was a very busy time in my life, I asked Emil to take the lead and enjoyed following him yet I remember him making encouraging remarks when I offered a new thought.
During the planting phase, it was always a delight to come home from work and see what had been accomplished that day. I gave Emil a lot of freedom to create and he designed low rock walls and paths in a number of places utilizing resources I already had available which set off the plantings beautifully. He demonstrated an almost intuitive knowledge about diverse plants and what would go well where. As this first summer progressed it was rewarding to see the mostly native plantings flower, attract the butterflies and finally go to seed. I can’t wait to see how the upcoming second year looks. I spoke with Emil a few times after the project was completed and he always asked how the garden was looking and answered any questions I still had (patiently as they were sometimes repeat questions). He clearly was concerned that I was satisfied with the work he had done.
I found hiring Emil to complete my landscaping project very satisfactory. If you know exactly what you want done, Emil is respectful and dependable. If you want his input into the design of your project, he has a wealth of creative ideas. He clearly loves his work which is evident in his attitude and the final product.

A. I do some new projects, in which a homeowner wants a significant change in the landscape of their yard. I also work for people who have previously invested in their garden's design, and now need help maintaining it.
A. If your job involves more than raking leaves or mowing grass, it helps to have someone with whom you can communicate clearly and effectively. Also, think about the order of tasks, and other tasks that might be related, in order to maximize the efficiency of your contractor's time (and your money!)
Also, come to the design process with an open mind. Many landscaping standard practices like lawns and tea roses were made popular in a different time, when there was less awareness about environmental stewardship and responsibility.
A. I have been gardening and growing food my entire life, and for over 5 years in California. This gives me an intuitive advantage when it comes to caring for plants. I have taken horticulture and landscape architecture courses and can bring a creative touch to your home.
A. I love to spend time out of doors, and I love gardens, so getting to spend time in gardens is pretty exciting in itself. They're magical places: intersections between humanity and nature, between the sophisticated and the primal, between the controlled and the wild.
Gardening and garden design are creative outlets; I find pleasure in seeing an idea go from a picture in my head to a drawing and then to reality. Bringing an ailing plantscape back to life can be equally rewarding.
A. All charges will be agreed upon up front. Estimates may be given for supplies or other expenses.
