I am a licensed acupuncturist, and specializes in pain management, insomnia, fatigue, digestive problems, and allergies. My practice has been based out of Oakland, CA for over 10 years. I've practiced massage therapy for 7 years, and acupuncture for the last 3 years. I combine both modalities in my practice, as well as qi gong and meditation.
I also work in combination, within the same office, with chiropractors, licensed massage therapists, strength and condition coach, and personal trainers.

I have seen Anthony Pape through Chiro Fitness. I came to him seeking pain relief through soft tissue work. I am fairly picky as I've noticed a lot of bodywork practitioners don't have the sensibility to really detect the right trigger points and activate them effectively. Anthony locates the trigger points and knows how to apply pressure, using some "dry needling" acupuncture right on the trigger points to deactivate them. This has helped me significantly with my pain issues. He seems to be very knowledgeable in both eastern and western traditions. He was able to work with my limited insurance to charge an affordable rate.

I've been a regular patient of Anthony's for over 2 years. About 5 years ago, I had two knee surgeries. One of the surgeries left me with nerve damage around my shin. My body had been compensating for my weaker knee for years, causing back pain. Anthony works magic! I now have feeling in my shin area, my back pain is gone, and I feel truly more balanced. Whenever I don't feel well (whether it be allergies, fever, or a feeling of imbalance), I head straight to Anthony because I know that I will walk away feeling so much better. I also referred my younger sister, who is now a regular patient as well. My bf drives from Daly City to Oakland just to get acupuncture services from Anthony.
Anthony, thank you for always "fixing" me! =)– Yen

I started seeing Anthony well over a year ago, first for massage and then short community acupuncture sessions. The first session was so wonderful that I began to wonder if my other acupuncturist was just pretending to put needles in me. It didn't take me very long to switch over to seeing Anthony for all of my appointments, and he quickly became one of my favorite people. Not only is he very gentle (a huge plus when wielding sharp objects), he is very good at involving you in what he is doing and why he is doing it. Even in "healing" professions I have met very few people as focused on helping and healing as Anthony is. I called panicked and in pain one afternoon, asking for a last minute appointment the next morning, and had him offer to let me come in after his last client. The office was closed and the janitors were cleaning the building by the time I left, but he didn't rush, worry or ignore anything I had to say for lack of time. I always leave his office feeling well cared for, and in better spirits than I entered it.
I really can't recommend anyone more highly than Anthony for both acupuncture and massage (especially when he combines them!!).– Hannah
Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. If someone is looking for help to provide change and balance to their diet, exercise and general lifestyle. Acupuncture is able to provide help in all of these. As practitioners, we are able to use diagnostics from both eastern and western disciplines. I believe in treating the person and not just the symptom.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. I would want to know if they are experienced in treating my condition and, if not, if they can refer me to someone that does.
Like any other medical profession, we do specialize in certain fields and it is important to research this when looking for a good fit. .
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. First is, if they are licensed, since California has it's own credentialing and, again, if they are experienced in treating your condition.
If they take insurance and can check to see what your benefits are?
Also, last but not least, availability and location to your work or home.
