John Simons has been playing bass professionally since 1988, and teaching since 1998. He plays and teaches many contemporary musical styles. John believes that in teaching, besides learning the mechanics, technique, song, style and theory, students must also muster their thoughts and overcome physical and conceptual barriers.
Music has been such a big part of my life that it was only natural to share that experience with others. The biggest challenge though is connecting with prospective bass guitar students.
John teaches classical and jazz music theory, improvisation, meter, rhythmic patterns, sight reading, and ear training. More importantly, he shows his students how to read the notes, develop left and right hand finger strength, as well as their attitude towards the art.
Watching students grow musically, and experiencing the energy and enthusiasm they bring to our meetings is my favourite part of being a music teacher.
If you want to learn to play the bass, take it from the pro and somebody who's passionate in teaching the craft; take it from John!
