A. Buying a home is probably the single most expensive investment you will ever make. A good detailed inspection report could save you thousands of dollars.
When choosing an inspector - Nothing Takes The Place Of Experience!
The best inspectors have:
- Several years of hands on construction experience
- Have performed well over 500 inspections
- Have been trained and certified as a professional inspector by a reputable organization.
- Fulfill at least 24 hours of Continuing Education every year
BEWARE: Inspectors ARE NOT all alike! A home purchase is too important to cut corners so please do yourself a huge favor and choose the best home inspector available. Of course price is important and a consideration for most customers but a keep in mind that going with the cheap inspector usually means less experience, less effort, and more surprises for you after the home is purchased.
I frequently hear horror stories about bad inspections. Unfortunately when I hear the story it is too late; The house has already been purchased and the new owners have unexpected problems that could have been prevented. As a buyer or real estate agent you have to decide what is best. There is no substitute for experience. A home purchase is too important to cut corners so please do yourself a huge favor and choose the best home inspector available.
