Kimberly Franzen Interiors is a full-service, residential interior design firm. Whether you need help with minor updating, large-scale renovations or new construction, I'll help you achieve the look you want.
I believe your home should reflect your personal taste and style. That's why I spend considerable time listening to each client's specific goals, needs and ideas right from the start. I then guide you through every step of the way to create an attractive and affordable space to suit your lifestyle.
I am skilled at solving complex space and design problems: I work closely with architects, builders and contractors to ensure quality workmanship and attention to detail. My experience can help you avoid costly mistakes and help in solving design issues and problems.
When working with a designer: your role in the design process is to take some time to think about what your needs, wants and problem areas are.
Some of the questions I will want to ask you are:
* Who are the space/spaces being designed for?
* What activities will take place in this space?
* How long do you plan to remain in this space?
* What is the budget?
* When do you want to start the project?
* When does the project need to end?
* What image or style do you want the space to portray?
* Do you have accessories, furniture, artwork or other items you wish to incorporate into the design?
About The Designer
I enjoy working in all areas of design, from modern to traditional. No job is too small or too large. My primary goal is to incorporate as much "Green" and "Eco-Friendly" products into each project. I am a current member of ASID, IIDA, IDCC, National Trust for Historic Preservation and NDCA (National Dance Council of America). I have a background full of creative endeavors. I hold a B.A. in Interior Design, a certificate in Zen Design, and have a working knowledge of Feng Shui.
I have been working in the design field since 2005 and have participated in the Philharmonic House of Design for 3 years and the very first ASID Urban Living Tour in 2009.
I also taught ballroom dancing for 18 years and competed professionally in Latin and Ballroom for 22 years. The movement aspects of dance help in my design constantly. I have made most of my own costumes, so designing seems to come naturally.

A. My most common types of jobs are residential followed by light commerical jobs. The residential jobs will start with a single room and move into other rooms from there. They typically involve color, furniture, space plan, window treatments and room re-design. I've done a lot of bathrooms recently and older home upgrades.
A. When hiring a designer you want someone you can comunicate with and enjoy be around. You can't always go by the photos in their portfolio because these photos are from clients homes where the client makes the design style choices. You should like what you see even thuogh it may not be your style. If you have a specific style in mind be sure to let them know or ask.
A. The flexible hours to be able to work with a multitude of clients and schedules, finding solutions for design issues, shopping for many styles and elements and seeing satisfied clients at the completion of a job. Once the job is complete and the client is able to live in their new space is a very gratifying feeling not only for the designer, but for the client as well.
A. Being an Interior Designer is different from a Decorator. As a designer, we have degrees in design from color, business principles, CAD drawings, design history, commercial and residential design, textiles to building materials and construction. We have a 3 or 4 year degree in Interior Design and have a wide knowledge of design styles.
A. I started out as a ballroom/latin dancer and instructor. I danced for 23 years and had some injuries that I could no longer dance and reach like I did. Dancing is very artistic and I wanted to do something that was still artistic. My stepson was the one who said I should be a designer. So I checked around and went to school to receive my BA in Interior Design.
A. My most recent project that I will be photographing soon was a 3 year partial re-build. It involved master bedroom, two master baths, parlor, cigar & bar room, three guest bedrooms, 2 guest bathrooms, exterior front and back, entry lighting and accessories. This project added about 700 square feet and cost with construction, all materials and design fees came to around $700,000.
