Many families with children in elementary and middle school children daily homework battles. If you are tired of these battles and the harm they do to your relationship with your children, I can help.
A little-known cause of these battles is that many children struggle with handwriting -- their written work embarrasses them, handwriting is physically difficult for them, or producing handwritten work takes up so much mental effort that they aren't really showing what they know.

Question and answer
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. My work stands out from others because I focus on the client's needs, not just teaching using one method.
I base my handwriting remediation program on the teaching principles of Handwriting Without Tears, using the handwriting program (Zaner-Blosser, D'nealian or others) used in my clients' school. I offer error-free learning. For reading, I use either the Barton Reading and Spelling Program, Funnix, or one of several fluency-building programs. The math remediation program is based on the student's particular needs.
I also have an deep understanding of assistive technology for students who struggle with reading, and can help students and parents select the correct tools.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. One area I particularly enjoy is the student's satisfaction and pride in mastering an area that was formerly difficult. I also enjoy working with students who have attentional or executive-function issues -- either labeled (ADHD, autism spectrum disorders and so on) or not.
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. How long will it take for my child to improve? In terms of handwriting, many students have significant improvement in 15 hours, spread over 10 weeks. In terms of reading, the student's progress depends upon the underlying issues. Students who struggle with fluency can get to grade level in as little as 10 hours of work, spread over 5 weeks.
Will my student need to be in tutoring "forever"? For some students, the answer will be: your student will continue to need extra-school support. My goal is to get the student as far as she can go.
