Question and answer

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. As a child, I was fascinated with martial arts and kung fu. I read about meridians and points to maximum damage. I was fascinated by the little information I could find. It was all vague at best.
When I got out of the Army, I started looking for massage schools. I was ready to do something very different from before.
I found Emperors College and realized that I could be more effective as a healer by practicing medicine as a primary health-care provider and began a career in Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. We are required to complete 50 hours of continued education every 2 years in order to keep our license in good standing. 80% must be related to health-care. Non-medical CEUs could include more spiritual or esoteric subjects like meditation, essential oils, gemstones or other development tools.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Do it! It is a lot of work. California requires that you complete a Masters level program that is laid out over 4 years of studies.
I recommend checking out the schools to find what is best for you. I liked that Emperors College in Santa Monica. It was all English speaking classes that rotated every quarter if not every other. It is the easiest to fall off tract and get back on due to life and working.
Many of the other schools have a Korean, Chinese and English tract with less students in each class and the school as a whole. Classes tend to be only offered once a year at the other schools I looked at.
