Classical & Contemporary Persian Ballet

Persia, bordering the Middle East and Central Asia, is the classical Persian dance's home. This dance style is a rhythmic yet fluid dance form, which emphasizes the use of wrists and hands.

The positioning and movement of the body reflect the refined and rich aesthetics of Persian. The workshops' focuses are on technique, including the movement of the feet and wrists, the shape of the hands, coordination and isolation of legs and arms, and capturing in the body line the Persian aesthetics.

The movements' nomenclature will be presented in Farsi (Persian language). In class, pre-recorded classical Persian music will be used.

Shahrzad’s unique style of contemporary Persian ballet choreography combines and captures the unleashed expression of contemporary dance with the poetically potent, refined aesthetics of ancient Persia, resulting in choreography that is both organically expressive and conceptual.

Shahrzad provides workshops around the U.S. and offers private intensive training in her studio in Richmond CA. Her dance company is also available for performances in or outside of the U.S. Travel expenses are the responsibility of the client.

  Shahrzad taught "Classical & Contemporary Persian Ballet" workshop twice at our studio and it was very well received. Students greatly enjoyed the workshop and always ask for her to come back. Shahrzad is an excellent teacher, dancer and scholar. Her choreographies are brilliant, her dance is very graceful and she is a very patient and thorough instructor. We highly recommend her workshops!
