I have been a cello student with Mr. Chen for about 6 years and am currently working on Saint Saens’ Cello Concerto. The piece is challenging, but Mr. Chen is very clear in his instruction. He gives me valuable advice on tone, specific parts in the piece, and more. He also makes playing the cello fun! He is kind and funny so every time I come into his lessons, I come out in a better mood than I had been in before. He is very flexible, and adjusts our lesson dates and times according to my schedule’s circumstances. I’ve learned so many things from him and I highly recommend Mr. Chen for any aspiring cello players.

I’ve been taking lessons with Jia-Mo for many years now and have learned a lot from him. He’s very friendly and skilled. I highly recommend him to anyone that wants to learn to play the cello.

I worked for eight months with J's Music Studio as a beginning adult cello learner with other musical background. J quickly adapted my lessons to reflect the knowledge base I came with and we were able to focus solely on the specifics of cello playing. He has an excellent ear and is incredibly patient, allowing for input on what I wanted to work on and when I thought I needed more time on specific pieces. He was flexible with instruction times as I occasionally needed to change them for work and my family. He found many ways to describe techniques and had so many suggested drills to help me understand concepts and form.

My son has taken cello lessons from Jiamo Chen since fall of 2018, and we could not ask for a better teacher. Jiamo is a very positive and patient teacher, consistent in giving positive feedback while challenging his students to improve their skills. The first year of lessons he spent much of the lesson time correcting posture and bowing, something foundational to any student who intends to pursue their instrument seriously. Jiamo also introduces his students to a wide repertoire of music, and he provides many opportunities for them to showcase the music they are learning.

Mr. Chen was my cello teacher for about 2 years, and his teaching grew me in many ways. He challenged me to learn pieces that took me out of my comfort zone, but also had me learn repertoire that I would chose. His instruction in regard to my technique caused me to grow in my skill steadily. I can look back to the years that I was his student and see the constant pattern of growth that I underwent. His teaching helped me prepare for college so very much because I learned valuable practice skills, gained musical knowledge, and received cello instruction that grew me in my technique, ability, and my love of cello.
