Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. If hiring a performer, ask if the provider charges per hour or a flat fee for the show. Regarding classes, find out if there is a discounted rate for prepaid classes and what is the drop in fee.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. It is important to have at least 2 or 3 dancers who are prepared to perform in the event you need a sub.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. Ask for her experience and whether she herself is teaching the class or are her students teaching her classes. Regarding shows, be clear on whether you want a professional performer at a higher cost or a student performer at a discounted rate.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. When I dance I experience a connection to my audience that I can only describe as transcendent. I feel as though I am operating at a higher lever of consciousness because I experience a sense of unity and joy that is almost cosmic, and I know my audience feels this too. It is truly one of the best (and natural) highs available!
My work also stands out because I have combined my expertise in dance with my masters in Psychology to teach and perform belly dance not only as an art but as a sacred healing art. I have written 2 books on the art of belly dance, a how to book and a belly dance therapy book. I also offer 3 instructional DVD's for belly dance, available on my website. I am certified to teach and perform belly dance through the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission and also hold an Adult Ed Teaching Credential. What's more, I have studied and performed Middle Eastern dance in Egypt. I also performed in India. I am an Elly Award winning dancer (this is a prestigious award given for excellence in dramatic arts).
I also fuse Belly Dance with Flamenco to offer a unique style of dance that blends the soft femininity of belly dance with the fiery masculinity of Flamenco. I teach World Dance Classes which include historical backgrounds on each dance.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. The joy the belly dance and other forms of ethnic dance brings people. Because they are earthy dances, they help to ground us and reconnect us to the Earth.
