Introduction: I have been a piano teacher in the greater Sacramento area for the past 20 years, teaching students in Sacramento, Davis, Carmichael, Elk Grove, Natomas. I have my BA in Music from UC Davis, specializing in music composition. I am active in the Music Teachers Association of California, serving as Branch President, Recording Secretary and Music From Home Community Service chairperson for the Yolo County Branch. I am also a member of the American College of Musicians, through which I have had students participate in the National Piano Guild Auditions. I teach my students music of all genres, from the classics like Beethoven and Mozart to pop and jazz and even musical theater. In addition, I value instilling a strong musical foundation of sight reading and rhythm and theory while also creating a fun learning experience for my students so that they learn the skills they need to tackle any music they desire.

Jay Jay gave my two grandchildren, ages 6 & 8, and their mother, my daughter, piano lessons while they were here during an extended stay. They all loved him! He was so responsive to all of their levels and very calmly guided them through each lesson, teaching all the while. They all improved while they were here and really did not want to return to their regular teacher at home in London! I highly recommend Jay Jay!!

Details: 6 - 9 years old • Yes, the student can read music • 0 - 2 yrs of formal training • What the teacher recommends • Yes, the student has a piano • 30 minutes • My home, venue, etc.

I was Jay Jay’s student from maybe 3rd grade all the way to my senior year of high school. Through my lessons, he was always a kind and considerate teacher who both supported and kept me accountable for my own progress. He was patient with my progress when I wouldn’t practice, and always found new ways to excite me about music. If I could take lessons from Jay Jay again, I absolutely would!

Jay Jay is a great piano teacher, a mentor, a coach even a counselor. He is patient, understanding, accommodating, works well with any age group. He taught my oldest son for over 11 years until he graduated from High school. He taught my youngest son for 3 years until he switched to concentrate on playing the violin. My boys learned a lot from Jay Jay. He encouraged them to enjoy piano while learning it. He always gives them tips/advices before each recital and to be a better player each time. He taught piano theories, made it fun for his students. He encouraged them to join different recitals, events to showcase their talent. He makes sure he has a good rapport and open communication with both his students and their parents. We were grateful to have Jay Jay as my boys awesome piano teacher!
