Introduction: Now celebrating its 45th year, Young Audiences is known for its arts education leadership locally and statewide. A 2006 study by The San Diego Foundation revealed that Young Audiences supplied 41% of all arts in school programs in San Diego county. Young Audiences hires professional artists from the community to teach dance, theatre, music, musical theatre, visual art, poetry and cultural arts programs, both during and after school. All programs actively engage students in the creative process, building individual and collaborative skills that contribute to developing healthy, active and successful citizens. Our residency programs integrated with core curriculum, meet the California state standards in the arts and can be both performance and process-based. Young Audiences also hires professional ensembles to provide assemblies and field trip experiences in dance, theater, storytelling and music. These programs offer an exciting combination of performance, narration and audience participation. Students learn to appreciate the performing arts and develop an awareness of cultural history and diversity. Invite the entire community to your school for a family arts night. Young Audiences will provide a 40-minute professional performance from a program of your choosing, and then follow up the performance with a hands-on arts activity for everyone. For example, celebrate Mardi Gras with music performances from a Brazilian music ensemble, followed up by mask making with a visual artist.
