Fit Camp enrollment for the October 2010 session is OPEN! Sign up today for the 4 week camp and have the body you've always wanted by Halloween! – Sep 22, 2010 at 8:46 am
Evolve Fit Camp is a four-week outdoor fitness boot camp in Mission Hills (Pioneer) Park, right next to Grant Elementary School. Fit Campers commit to one month of camp, and choose to participate in class two, three, or four times each week.
The session starts with a kick-off party to meet your fellow campers and to let you participate in a series of fitness assessment tests. This way, from the very first workout, each class is custom-tailored to suit your fitness level and to help you work toward improving your muscular strength, cardio-respiratory endurance, agility, and body composition.
Each day of the week, we focus on a different part of the body, just as a personal trainer would. And after four exciting weeks of fun, diverse, and challenging workouts, we perform the same assessment tests again to measure your progress and results.
A. There are LOTS of boot camps out there. I know! When I first moved to San Diego I shopped around too, to see if I might get a job working for one of them, and after my long experience teaching for Boot Camp San Francisco, I realized that none of them are doing boot camp the way that we do up North, and that the model that I bring down to San Diego with me is unique and effective. By enrolling in a camp ahead of time, you are going to feel less intimidated because everyone starts on the first day together and finishes on the last day together. You don't have to worry about being the new guy/girl in class that has no idea what's going on. My classes are smaller than most other fitness boot camps, so there's less down time and less chance that you are going to hurt yourself if when performing an exercise that you are unfamiliar with. Also, in my experience, having good chemistry with your trainer is KEY so make sure that you choose a class where your instructor is giving it their all. Lots of the other guys are really burned out and coast through a ton of classes each day. Find someone who will energize you with the SPARK you need to get the most out of every workout, and keep coming back for more!
A. Evolve Fit Camp is unique in that participants do not join mid-way through a session. This ensures a higher quality experience for everyone involved and evokes a higher commitment level from you and your fellow campers. You will start and finish the program together as a team. Although everyone will enroll at different baseline levels of fitness, you will learn the exercises together, build upon them and then progress on without leaving anyone behind or having to catch anyone up in the middle of a session. You are committing to four weeks of a healthier lifestyle. An earlier bed time, a leaner diet, a passion for realizing your potential... and you aren’t doing it alone. Every morning the same faces will greet you, ready to give it their all, and you’ll find a motivating energy in each other. It is the “camp” component missing from most boot camps in San Diego - and it’s what we do best.
A. I like training small groups over the course of a month, because I get the chance to know my campers better than I would if I was teaching a large group, or a class where participants changed day to day. I have met some incredible people, and feel so lucky to have worked with them closely to get them into the best shape of their lives. Most of my clients were fit or athletes in high school or college but then life got in the way - jobs, kids, commitments - I get to see that spark, that fire return to their eyes as they remember what it felt like to push themselves, finish a workout, reach their goals. I love the assessment because I feel so proud of my campers' dedication at the end of the session and share the joy with them of cutting time off of their 1 mile run, doing more pushups than they ever had, fitting into the pants they never thought they could. Every session creates success stories. I love being part of that.
A. They often ask me what if they have to travel or go away during the session. I tell them to stay active so that they don't lose progress, and to let me know ahead of time so that they only buy the classes that they are going to use. Value is important for me - that's one thing I love about boot camp is that you are going to get the same results as if you were working out with me as your personal trainer, but at about a quarter of the price. If you can't commit to 4 weeks straight, do what you can, and make sure to come back to see me when you get back :).
