Introduction: After 22 years working in the dog training field, I have learned that the best teachers are the dogs. They have all of the answers, we just need to listen and that takes a lot of practice. My book, Chill Out Fido! How to Calm your Dog was written from the knowledge that dogs are so often misunderstood and we really need to teach them to live in our world. That is accomplished with a deep understanding of dog behavior and the concepts of training using methods that are easily understood by dogs. Our entire team enjoys working with people to help them build or repair their relationships with their dogs.

I have had the true pleasure of working with Nan in training my rescue dog, a golden/huskey mix. I had worked with many trainers in San Diego, before finding Nan, my last hope! Heartley had many behavior problems that I just couldn't figure out how to address. From the minute Nan walked in and clicked and gave Heartley a treat it was all down hill from there. Nan taught me how to teach Heartley what I wanted from him in a positive manner. Learning how to click and treat has allowed me to teach Heartley all kinds of behaviors. Nan has an almost magical way in connecting to Heartley. We have been working with her for years, and plan on continuing for years to come! I have referred many of my friends to Nan, and they all say the same thing, it is a pleasure working with her. Her knowledge of dog behavior is extraordinary. We are really blessed to have this level of trainer in our community.

If you want to build a close bond with your dog (or cat), the trainers at Whole Dog Training will help you understand how dogs learn using positive reinforcement methods only. You will learn to be a leader while you and your dog learn and have fun. Your dog will look forward to training and so will you!

I have known Nan Arthur for over 15 years, and as the head of a local animal rescue group, I am happy to recommend her services to any and all who need help with the training/behavior of their pets. Any dog or cat whose owners have had training information from this lady - are VERY lucky. I have seen her turn around some very difficult dogs and saved them from being turned into a shelter or destroyed.

The Whole Dog Training team volunteers their time at Rancho Coastal Humane Society working with our dogs and cats and helpin g to train our volunteers. They only use positive training methods and have done wonders with some troubled dogs that have gone on to find wonderful homes. Huge wags from the Rancho Coastal adoptable pets.

My dog and I went through 4 trainers in a year before we found Nan, who could finally help us. She demonstrated in a very organized and positive way, how I could get results by learning how to "communicate" with my dog. I appreciated having the "notebook" with step-by-step instructions on how to practice at home. Above all, she made me aware that I had to change my own behavior first. The on-site facilities are great--attractive, clean, and spacious.
