I play guitar since 15 years and met Michael about 2 and a half years ago. We have different musical projects together and play shows on a regular basis. He is definitely one of the best drummers I have worked with, precise, versatile and most important very musical. I would recommend Michael to anybody looking for a serious teacher.

For years I've known Mike; and I've worked with him on numerous musical projects. He is one of the most talented, spirited, and influencial musicians I've had the pleasure of knowing. Collaborating with him has been one of the greatest learning experiences I've had. Not to mention, Mike is one of the easiest going, likable people out there. I'd recommend him for lessons, or even a half hour of picking his musical brain.

A. Finding the right teacher can be tough. For most students, the relationship they have with a teacher can really make or break that students enthusiasm for any given subject. Things to look for, in my experience, are: clear communication skills, a solid understanding of the instrument, a balance between having patience and being a positive motivational teacher, good standing within the music community (remember sometimes the best players aren't the best teachers), and organization. These factors, as well as others, can help guide you to the best possible fit for your student. Give it a little time for the instrument to take hold, learning anything new is hard for kids (and adults), and for the first few months it might be frustrating.
A. I grew up in a very musically friendly family, my parents owned and operated the local music store in St. Cloud, MN and from a young age I was immersed in the world of music. At the age of four my parents enrolled me in the Suzuki program playing violin, then piano at six. When I was ten I joined the school orchestra on upright bass and also began my studies in percussion. Two years lated I had my first band and we played a cover of "Hello, Goodbye" by the Beatles for our sixth grade graduation. After high school I moved to Seattle, WA to study jazz at Cornish College of the Arts, where I earned my Bachelor's degree in 2006, (Jazz Performance- Drumset). My approach to teaching and my philosophies on music are rooted in patience, focus, a positive atmosphere, and a clear understanding of communication.
A. I love to see the gears turning, that moment when a student starts to see the picture and truly understands what is happening. Because each student is different, and takes slightly different paths on their musical journey, my approach to each student is different. Rudiments, sight reading, grooves (jazz, rock, funk, r&b, hip-hop, Brazilian, Afro- Cuban...), poly-rhythms, improvisation, song structure, music theory and more are examined in my lessons.
