Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Look for someone who is not only licensed and insured to practice massage, but someone with a good reputation within the community.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. What is real deep tissue?

We want everyone to know that deep tissue shouldn't be painful. It's more about patience than pressure, not the "no pain, no gain" mentality.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. I think it's important to understand that massage is contraindicated for certain medical conditions. Please check with your doctor to make sure that massage is in line with your treatment plan.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Because we don't rush you in and out in an hour, we really take the time to find out what you're looking for during your massage that day.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. We love witnessing the physical and emotional transformations within our clients!

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Most clients want to know how long I've been practicing massage. As of right now, it's been almost three and a half years.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. I want people to know that massage therapists are incredibly caring and knowledgeable. We take our work very seriously and truly do believe in its healing benefits.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. Massage has always been a part of my life. My mom used to wake me up in the mornings by gently massaging my arms. It definitely beat an annoying alarm clock!
My dad used to give me sports massage after volleyball and track tournaments.
I always knew that I wanted a career that was challenging and allowed me to help people. Massage has been rewarding beyond my expectations!

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. I was referred a client who had chronic shoulder pain for the past 5 years. It was so bad that at times he couldn't sleep at night.
I performed 1 hour a week of deep tissue massage and he was pain free after 4 months.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. Every year I do at least 12 hours of continuing education in my field for credit, and I'm constantly learning from and sharing with other therapists.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. Massage is becoming more and more mainstream. People are starting to view it as an integral part of their health maintenance plan as opposed to something they only do on a special occasion.

Doctors are prescribing it for patient care and a greater range of research is being performed every day.

It's this type of progress that will one day have massage included in our insurance coverage. I know we all want this so keep after your insurance providers!

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. I would suggest that they get a job doing some kind of massage while they're in school. This will allow them to figure out which areas of massage they're interested in pursuing further.
