Introduction: Joey Earnest is a musician and educator from Southern California, who specializes in piano, saxophone, composition, and production. In addition to teaching private music lessons, he teaches several rock and jazz history courses with the San Diego Community College District. He received a BM in Jazz Studies: Saxophone Performance from UC Irvine, an MM in Composition from San Diego State University, and an MA in Education from National University. Joey also produces and composes electro-acoustic music. Joey can be heard performing in and around San Diego with his band, The Munks.
Joey also holds “virtual recitals” for his students every 3 months. All students are expected to prepare a few songs to perform and record for the recital video that gets sent to the students and their families. These recitals create incentive for students to practice, and provide parents a concrete solution for tracking their child’s progress. Online music lessons are an excellent option for busy families and students with irregular schedules.
