Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A.
When looking to hire a personal valet do your homework. Think about the scope of work you need help completing. Whether you need someone to provide non-medical adult care for you or a family member; or you need someone to handle your personal shopping. Determine how often you anticipate the need for a personal valet.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. If I were a customer looking to hire a personal valet I would want to know what I should expect to pay for the particular type of provider I was seeking. For example, if I contact a temporary employment agency or home care provider agency, I would pay between $25 and $40 per hour depending on the assignment. Agencies assess a higher hourly rate for workers than independent contractors. In many cases agencies charge customers up to twice as much.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. I believe the following questions will help a consumer to identify the right service professional?
1) Tell me about the range of services you provide?
2) How long have you performed this type of work?
3) What are your most common type of jobs?
4) What are your rates?
5) Do you have a criminal record?
6) Do you have another worker that can substitute in the event of your absence?
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. My work stands out from others who do what I do because I sincerely enjoy helping people who cannot do things for themselves. My professional experience involved working as a senior manager for a range of not-for-profit organizations that provided charitable support and services to underprivileged people. My personal mission continues to be defined by my work to serve as an advocate for women, children, and persons with disabilities.
