San Raphael Spanish Academy and Daycare is a great place for children, whether they are an infant, toddler, or on their way into their pre-school years. The owner and staff are great at what they do, presenting an encouraging, laid back, warm atmosphere which enable the kids to learn as they play--a very important aspect in child development. The children's immersion in world languages is only one of the great educational offerings of this facility. I highly recommend it to all parents--if you are looking for not just a daycare, but a safe environment for your children to learn and grow, then San Raphael Spanish Academy and Daycare is the place to go!

Our 2.5 year old daughter immediately liked the program. The setting is bright and spacious but cozy, the providers are wonderful, the children participate in plenty of age-appropriate activities (arts and crafts, painting, reading, singing and dancing, etc). I really recommend this place!

Our daughter Really seem to enjoy her time at San Raphael.
When we pick her up she is always in a good mood, singing,
speaking spanish and mentioning the other kids names.
She treats it like her second home, comfortably taking her long naps.
Gail and her staff are just terrrific!

Our son absolutely enjoyed the San Raphael Spanish Academy and Daycare. He often came home singing his new Spanish words, hola luna, hola sol. He played and learned all day, it was great and in his words "fun".

SAN RAPHAEL DAYCARE is a facility where you can be most comfortable leaving a child. You can be sure that they will be well cared for, challenged, and be happy. I have know the director for many years and have always been impressed with her warmth, gentleness, and sensitivity with children. She has definite positive goals when it comes to educational offerings and instructional curriculumn. The home setting of the school contributes to the ambience of a nonstressful natural environment in which children can flourish. Send your children there; you will be most pleased.

My son has been at San Raphael Daycare for about 2 years now -- he started at 7 months and is now blossoming in the preschool program at 2.5 years old. We have been very happy with our experience there, and he has not only had a lot of fun and made new friends, but also has learned a lot. Gail and her staff are great at what they do, and they have so much to offer children from infants through preschool. We know our son enjoys his time there; in fact he will often ask on weekends if it's "school time" because he's so excited to go back! We highly recommend San Raphael Daycare and have really appreciated all that they have done for us these past two years.

A. Go visit the daycare at a time when there are children there. Look around, see how the children interact with the staff. Do they seem happy? Does the daycare offer any kind of preschool program? Is there enough space to play, both inside and out? Is it tidy? (keep in mind that kids are quite messy and so there may be a little mess during the day). Is the daycare licensed?
A. We aim to be the best home daycare around. We exceed licensing requirements, have more caregivers than licensing even requires, have a clean, safe environment for the children, serve mostly organic food and have Spanish and English speaking caregivers.
A. I love working with children. I have always enjoyed caring for children, even when I was a child myself. I also like the fact that although I am working and have to share my time between all the children, my own two children have "mommy" at home and also have their friends come over to play.
A. How do you discipline the children?
It all depends on what the child did. If they hurt somebody then they go automatically into a time-out, a minute for each year of age. If they are fighting over a toy, we see if they need help sorting out the problem or not. If they are unable to solve the problem then we will take the toy away and show them something else.
A. My own son, who just turned 3, loves counting. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, heaven, 8, 9, 10!
Another child who is still 2 has started singing the alphabet - a, b, c, d, e, f, tree...!
Don't try and tell them they are wrong, because they KNOW they are right! :-)
We have a chatterbox child who is 18 months old and loves being in with the "big" kids. She can say nearly all their names too!
When the doorbell rings at the end of the day, one of the boys is generally having so much fun that before we've even seen who's at the door, he shouts "That's not MY daddy!" and runs to hide!
The children love being here and we love having them here too.
A. I have always loved working with children. When I was in elementary school I volunteered at my recess time to help watch the preschool class while they had recess too.
I started babysitting as soon as I was allowed to work, and later went to Germany as an aupair for a year. I stayed on in Germany teaching English to children aged 3 to 10, and then became a full time nanny to an 8 week old. I left when she was 2 years old to move to the States with my husband.
I did an Adult Education early childhood course at Poway High school when we first got here. I also nannied for a while and then after having my second son I decided to open a home daycare.
