Introduction: There is an art to being an excellent interviewer. You have to put your client at ease so that they will trust you enough to share the important stories of their lives. You also have to maintain a delicate balance between control and spontaneity during the interview so that the stories unfold as they are told, often leading to reflections that surprise even the person being interviewed. Having a background in Counseling as well as interviewing more than 200 people for their family stories have contributed greatly to this skill. It's a question of love rather than like. I love the impact the interview makes on my clients and their families. The person interviewed has the opportunity to think and reminisce about their life and the family benefits because they now have the stories and family history preserved for future generations of their family.

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

My most common jobs are interviewing senior members of a family about their history and family stories. Often this is a gift given to them by their family in honor of a birthday or anniversary.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

To be in front of a camera, can be very hard for some people. I am most proud of the times that I am able to transform someone who begins their interview being quite nervous into someone who becomes relaxed and finds themselves enjoying the process and thus creating a meaningful interview that captures not only their stories but their true personalities.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Make sure your video biographer not only has the technical skills but the interpersonal skills as well to create an excellent interview. A great video interview starts with the rapport and trust the interviewer establishes with the person being interviewed.
