Gotta say, I do like @thumbtack - they're like the anti-craigslist, in that they care about users & collecting good data from verified biz's – Aug 10, 2010 at 11:21 pm

I'm a marketing consultant in San Diego, CA with an 8-year background as an integrated marketing strategist for brands including Royal Caribbean, Subway, Fidelity Investments and KB Toys.
Simply put, I solve marketing problems for my clients through unique and effective integrated strategies, that incorporate websites, emails, branding, social media and sometimes just a good conversation.
So let's talk! Chances are, I can help.
Question and answer
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. The fact that I'm both a marketing strategist as well as a designer helps me keep your business' big picture in mind, while sweating the details of execution.
It also means you get two coveted skills for the price of one!
Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?
A. That more than anything, it takes time to build a successful brand or marketing campaign - money is not as big of a restriction as it used to be. Today, time and commitment are the scarce resources.
Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?
A. I wanted to use the skills and knowledge I've acquired throughout my career to partner with entrepreneurs who are passionate about their businesses, and for causes I believe in.
Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.
A. A client of mine approached me requiring a website and ecommerce store set up. His existing site was criminally bad, and he had little to no content or online presence, despite having a very reputable business.
After our work together, his website and store were automated and optimized to be on the front page of Google, and he was selling his products at a steady rate with no outbound marketing efforts whatsoever!
Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?
A. The simultaneous rise of social media and the intelligence of search engines will mean two things: optimizing your website will become less important, and now more than ever, it'll be good to know people.
Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.
A. I actually try to simplify the pricing structure of my services: I charge a flat hourly rate for all activities, whether it's consulting, design, execution, etc.
In terms of pricing a job, if it's fairly well defined, I will quote an estimated total cost. If my help is required on an ongoing basis, I will work for a flat monthly retainer.
