Introduction: I have what I call "the eye" which is not something that comes from having good equipment, or even a professional photography eduction from a fancy school. It's about framing the shot with your eye, seeing how the light is shining on someone and moving them a bit until it enhances the picture instead of detracts from it. It's about talking just enough to make the subject feel comfortable, and getting them to relax and let their genuine personality and smile shine through their eyes. Capturing the small details at a wedding the might otherwise be forgotten, and catching the spontaneous pictures that occur instead of worrying about posing everyone. It's about knowing which pictures will look best in B&W and which in color, and editing the pictures so that when the Bride and Groom see their album only the "good ones" are there, and nothing that would make them cringe. All of these are things that are learned over time, through experience and trial and error and listening to my clients and watching, always watching, and snapping thousands of photos because I know I can delete any that I don't like and then still have more than enough "good ones" left so that the client ends up thinking that EVERY picture I take is GOOD. Ooops, did I just tell my secret? Meeting people who say they "hate" having their picture taken, and by the end of the photoshoot they say they "had fun" and are smiling. Then when they see their pictures and smile and say "OH! You made me look good. Thank you!" and it boosts their confidence. It is very gratifying, I feel so happy.
