Introduction: I think what makes me slightly different from a traditional acupuncturist is that I have a strong background in Functional Medicine (FM). I received my certification from the Functional Medicine Institute in 2004. FM looks to bring the body into a state of optimal health. So all values of tests are not evaluated from are you sick but is your test value in the optimal range. If you were an olympic athlete what would your red blood cell count be or your estrogen levels be. In this way I can diagnose when you are leaning toward physical disease without having to wait for the actual manifestation of any disease process. Treatments utilize the ancient time tested art of Chinese Medicine as well as nutritional supplements, herbs, diet and nutrition. I am also a Fellow with the Oriental Reproductive Medicine and work as a staff acupuncturist with Pacific Fertility Center through Integrative Fertility I love health. I love researching and reading about all things health. My job and my interest have collided in the most beautiful of ways.

i went to see bethany for what i thought would just be japanese-style acupuncture, but the session with her was so much more. i was feeling "off", as if my body wasn't functioning as it used to or at full capacity, so i was hoping that the acupuncture would help restore some balance. after filling out an extensive questionnaire, bethany asked specific questions to help pinpoint my issues. some of my answers were specific, but some were vague, yet she was still able to quickly determine a course of action for me. bethany is so pleasant and engaging and easy to talk to, yet still very professional. she is efficient, yet i never feel rushed. she is extremely knowledgable and a true wellness practitioner, combining all of her knowledge and skills and applying them to each individual case. in my case, i did get some acupuncture, but i was also sent home with an inexpensive supplement powder that i dubbed "the miracle powder" :-) by my next follow-up appointment 1-1/2 weeks later, i felt back to myself again. should another need arise to see bethany, whether vague or specific, i would see her again in a heartbeat.

Bethany has been my acupuncturist for 10 years. I couldn't imagine life without her. I started with her at the suggestion of a coworker who was seeing her for fertility and subsequently got pregnant. I initially saw Bethany for stress due to the divorce I was going through. I have stayed with Bethany not only for the health benefits but she has helped me understand what my body has gone through hormonal lay as well as after a serious car accident. Bethany is always on time, considerate and upbeat.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Currently I charge more for intakes with internal medicine and fertility since I spend a significant number of hours annually keeping up with current treatments, research and CEUs. The break down is as follows: Initial Fertility $145 Initial Internal $125 Initial Pain $85 Follow Up $85 Phone Consult 30 min $55
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes, I am required to put in 25 CE units per year for my acupuncture license and an additional 20 CE units in gynecology to maintain my ABORM credential.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I enrolled in a Shiatsu class for fun. It ran about 3 months mostly nights and weekends. There was a class called Eastern and Western Diagnosis which was taught by an acupuncturist. I remember thinking, "wow this is so amazing". After that course I started seeing that acupuncturist regularly and she became my mentor and eventually I decided to jump full in and complete the 3 year master program.
