Question and answer
Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.
A. On the business side, I help a lot of people form corporations, limited liability companies and other forms of business entities. My fee includes getting the entity set up, filing all the paperwork, providing the company with pro forma documents that they can easily amend to keep all the corporate formalities in place, and contacting me for the first year of the business with any questions relating to the entity formation.
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. There are many attorneys in the San Francisco bay area. Someone looking to hire an attorney should ask others for their recommendations as to who they think will do the best job for the client. Above all, one has to be comfortable with the relationship, based on mutual respect and trust.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. Because of my extensive business and bank lending background, I am able to tell my customers what makes business sense for them to do, not just what their legal rights are.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. Helping people with their business and legal issues and challenges. Giving them quality referrals to other individuals with different expertise than mine.
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. A lot of potential clients want to know what specific services will cost. I have an hourly rate that is on the low side for attorneys with my level of experience. Some of my services have fixed fees. I try to give good estimates, and will often give a "not to exceed" bid for the services i will render. Sometimes this is not possible with litigation or arbitration, as one cannot be sure what opposing counsel will do to which a response is needed.
Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?
A. My father and sister were both attorneys. I have a brother who is a paralegal at a major law firm. As the banking industry began shrinking, I looked for ways to utlilize my vast business experience, where I would be in control of my working destiny. Law provided me with new skills that were complementary to those I had gathered over 30 years. Additionally it allowed me to continue having a profession where I could help people. That was a critical part of the decision.
