Always get at least 3 estimates by licensed contractors for projects over $600.00. For smaller jobs it's good to have a written contract as well for licensed and un-licensed contractors. Ask for referrals and/or pictures of their most recent work. Ask them what are the 'gotchas' you need to think about as you move forward with your project.
