Introduction: My specialization and training in special effects makeup gives me an extra set of skills that I carry over with me while doing beauty makeup. Although special effects makeup can be messy, it requires a great deal of precision. It also requires creativity, and improvisation. I've used everything from the netting on dish scrubbers to the wires from a broken calculator to fabricate my special effects creations. While beauty makeup may not call for such extreme measures, the ingenuity and quick-thinking I gained from my special effects training has definitely given me a competitive edge and helped me on many beauty makeup jobs. As cliche as it sounds, the most rewarding part of my job has been the awe and gratitude of my clients. While I've done makeup for everything from runway to film to private clients, my favorite "gig" was doing the halloween makeup for the children of a family friend. The happiness on their faces when they saw their makeup was a reward in and of itself. Getting to help people bring their vision to life is what draws me to my career and makes me excited to go to work every day.
