“The health of your body influences what you experience in your mind. There is no split. If you can engage your whole spirit in the pursuit of total fitness – not just your intellect, not just your emotions – but instead everything inside you that is truly you, you’ll discover what it is to be a whole person.” -David Patchell-Evans – Sep 10, 2011 at 11:57 am

Inspired. Integrative. Sanctuary.
We offer affordable therapeutic massage therapy and bodywork treatments provided by highly skilled, professional healing arts practitioners. A healing space for body, mind and spirit, inspired by the medicine Buddha and rooted in "metta" or loving kindness.
The Blue Buddha is a street-level, two-room, by appointment only, private practice massage therapy and bodywork studio. We are located steps away from the Polk Street Business District in the Nob Hill neighborhood of San Francisco, just a short stroll from Union Square.
We are a group of independent business owners sharing a beautiful space and a common philosophy rooted in the transformative power of bodywork.
We also feature a sliding scale acupuncture clinic every Wednesday and Friday with Eric Kerr Acupuncture and serious skin care every Monday and Saturday with Hannah Sowd Skin Care.

A. The Blue Buddha is not a spa. We are a massage therapy & bodywork studio (no shower, sauna, etc.) that also features a sliding scale Acupuncture clinic on Wednesdays and Serious Skin Care on Saturdays and Mondays. Our goal is to create a safe space that facilitates healing for you. We hope to create long term relationships with our clients and educate them on the transformative power of frequent treatments. The healing begins when you enter the space. We encourage clients to enter the space leaving expectations at the door and to approach their sessions as an opportunity to disconnect from the fast-paced world and reconnect to their self.

A. I sit at a computer all day and I have X, Y and Z tightness/soreness/discomfort. What should I do?
The simple answer: GET UP AND MOVE. Our bodies are not built to sit for long periods of time and our culture has been moving towards an environment where the seated position is necessary for most people's jobs and now many people continue to sit even after the work day is over. Our bodies are built to move. Sitting day after day put our bodies in positions that require joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments to work (or not work) against their natural tendencies. After time (years after year) our bodies begin to react and compensate to be able to manage the stress and strains we put on them. This results in changes that can become permanent and lead to dysfunction and dis-ease. How do we prevent these changes? MOVE THE BODY. Walk, stretch, take breaks, engage in physical fitness, take time for deep breathing and most importantly....listen to your body. If you sit in stillness occasionally and tune in, your body sends messages. If we ignore the messages it will rebel with pain and discomfort. Get up from the desk, take a deep breath, move and stretch. Your body and mind will thank you.
A. Massage Therapy & Bodywork can be transformative. Forget the old ideas that a massage is something done once a year or as a luxury experience. The truth is that frequent treatments offer a wealth of benefits, with each session building upon the previous. Typical benefits experienced by those who receive frequent treatments (range of benefits and frequency depends upon each individual's body and needs) as defined by Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP):
-Alleviate low-back pain and improve range of motion.
-Assist with shorter, easier labor for expectant mothers and shorten maternity hospital stays.
-Ease medication dependence.
-Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flowthe bodys natural defense system.
-Exercise and stretch weak, tight, or atrophied muscles.
-Help athletes of any level prepare for, and recover from, strenuous workouts.
-Improve the condition of the bodys largest organthe skin.
-Increase joint flexibility.
-Lessen depression and anxiety.
-Promote tissue regeneration, reducing scar tissue and stretch marks.
-Pump oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs, improving circulation.
-Reduce postsurgery adhesions and swelling.
-Reduce spasms and cramping.
-Relax and soften injured, tired, and overused muscles.
-Release endorphinsamino acids that work as the bodys natural painkiller.
