Experienced Math Teacher & Tutor

Is your child falling behind in math? Does your child need some extra support to do better? I can help to bring your child up to par and ahead.

I am a certified teacher who has been teaching math and science in a middle school in the San Francisco Unified School District. I have previously worked as a private tutor for elementary and middle school level students. I have also worked as a tutoring coordinator for a high school afterschool tutoring program.

My area of tutoring focus is middle school math. I can help your child review the specific math concepts and math skills that he or she has done poorly at, while keeping up with his current homework. I use a variety to ways to help my students gain a clear and sensible understanding of math concepts.

Three very important points in my teaching philosophy for math are:

1) To help my students see the reasons (why) behind the math formulas
2) Students being able to demonstrate their understanding three ways — verbally, mathematically and visually
3) Real life applications of math

Usefulness of individual lessons

Working with students one-on-one, or in a small, focused guided group, gives your child the opportunity to learn in ways that is often not possible in a large classroom setting of over 30 students. In working one-on-one, the teacher is able to give attention to your child’s specific needs and support his or her learning in smaller steps, making learning easier. In my experience, most students make significant gains working one-one-one with a teacher/tutor.

My rate is $30 to $45/hour, depending on the amount of time you will need my service, the distance of my travel to you and your financial need. I like to suggest meeting 3 times a week. My areas of service are San Francisco and south SF, Daly City and Brisbane.
