Introduction: I differ from a lot of different music organizations by working with a student on an individual basis. Most music teachers have anywhere between 20-40 students. Currently I limit my studio to 10 students a week. By only taking on this many students, I have more time outside of the lesson to do the appropriate amount of work for the student. This includes making a syllabus for each student, composing or arranging a piece to work on a problem for a student or arranging a piece PRIOR to the students lesson. I base my studio off 19th century practices. The history of studying music has changed a large amount since the days of Beethoven. For example, many of the piano sonatas that were composed by Beethoven in the 1800s were composed for his students in order to give an individual student a piece to show what he/she does well and to improve a problem that he/she might have.
The part I love most about my job is to see a student get as exited about music as I do. At the end of the day, this is why I teach music.
