Introduction: I am a singer / songwriter / musician before I am a producer / engineer. I studied music production at UCSD, but I feel my strength is my ability to not only see an artist's vision, but to help them visualize their vision more clearly. I enjoy all types of music because I love the creative process and I believe everyone's 'voice' is worth crafting. I know my strengths and weaknesses and truly desire to help my fellow musicians at any level. I love music and I love working with people who love music.

Gulch Alley is where it's at! We checked Jesse out six months ago because his recording rates are so cheap, and stumbled onto a gold mine. A beautiful private space with good equipment, you won't have to listen to the kids in the next room and you won't suddenly have your reservation downgraded because they overbooked. If you pay the extra $10 per hour, you can get a very good recorded sound for the price. Jesse is a great asset, he wants your band to be as comfortable and sound as good as possible. I've recorded here with my main project, rehearsed here when I'm filling in with someone new, and I've just gotten the space for a night here and there to hang out and jam with friends. Of everywhere I've played in SF, it's by far the best hourly space and a better option than most long-term ones. Jesse's passion for the community, his love of music, and his support of art shine through everything.

Found Gulch Alley Music Studio when it first opened via craiglist. Thought it was going to be a throw away experience, just something to try out for shits and giggles with my recording projects/bands. To my surprise, Gulch Alley turned into an awesome little find! Jesse has a great ear, location/venue is perfect for creativity, and studio equipment is solid. I've since recorded four songs here and hope to record many, many more. I've been playing in SF indie bands since the 90s, recorded/practiced a bunch of places, and I can honestly say Gulch Alley is one of the best ones I've discovered. Highly recommended music studio that's affordable and excellent quality. Before you throw down thousands of dollars for a "PRO STUDIO," give Jesse and Gulch Alley a try. You'll save a ton, be more chill about the recording process, and come out with a product that's just as good (if not better) than other SF options.

Jesse at Gulch Alley easily took care of making me sound my best for a project I requested. He goes the extra distance with his extraordinary ears by hearing things I wasn't exactly certain. His prices, location and availability make him a peerless engineer for San Francisco-based musicians.

Unbelievably fun and life-changing experience. I was able to achieve sounds I didn't think I could and Jesse blended them beautifully and artistically. Every thing I needed was made available as I needed it. Very private, no other noises or work invades the studio, and there is excellent one on one care, advice and strategies on how to get the work done. I highly recommend this studio for the beginner looking to feel out his or her work and the experienced professional fleshing out his resume. On top of that the prices are extremely competitive. This is a first rate studio. I am so glad I tried it out.

Jesse was completely accommodating when it came to purchasing some rehearsal time for my boyfriend for Christmas. He was quick to respond, enthusiastic about finding a solution, and happy to help any way he could. I'm looking forward to hearing what my boyfriend thinks of the space; if it's anything like management, it'll be great!

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

When embarking on a recording or music production endeavor, always offer as much detailed insight into what you are specifically looking to achieve with your end product. Helpful information includes: A detailed description of the music style and any bands or example albums / You Tube videos that capture the desired sound. Also, it is important to talk about budget and work out a plan. Give the engineer insight into the quality level that you are looking for, the desired number of songs, and how many players and types of instruments will be recorded. This will allow the producer / engineer to come up with a recording plan that fits in your budget.
