I am a musician and composer working in San Francisco and teach private lessons in the Bay Area, available either by house visit or meeting at a facility located close to you.

I bring to lessons a solid and expansive education in music performance, theory, and composition in different styles, as well as the ability to explain and display the necessary skills in a variety of ways for a diversity of learning styles.

I teach an aggressive curriculum, but one that is tailored to the student's personal strengths and weaknesses, and I always remain gentle and patient while guiding my students through the rewarding process of learning to create music.

I have been playing the piano for 17 years, trumpet for 15 years, and guitar for 6 years. I have studied music performance, theory, and history at Concord Academy, The Wells College Program for the Arts in Paris, and Sarah Lawrence College.

While studying music performance, theory, and history extensively in many different styles at Sarah Lawrence, I additionally studied electronic music, ethnomusicology, composition, and conducting.

Please feel free to contact me at any time either via email or phone with any questions.

Sean has been teaching me for more than seven months now. I am an returning adult pianist after many years off and had lessons for about a year in the past.
    What a difference!
I learn something new at each lesson; Sean is patient and helps me solve problems that I encounter; he is very knowledgeable about music theory and its practical applications and is transferring some of that knowledge to me (I have a long way to go); he is flexible about choices of pieces that I want to learn; he has introduced me to a variety of exercises that resulted in real improvement; he has been extraordinarily tactful when I make dumb mistakes; he has helped me focus and not bite off more than I can chew (play).
    He is prompt.
I am very happy that I found him. It is always risky when you seek out a professional so I am also relieved that this turned out much better than I could have expected.
