Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: We are a purpose-built riding school, concentrating on the fundamentals of good riding and horsemanship. Our focus on the horse-knowledge aspect sets us apart from the others. We do not try to pressure you into buying your own horse, as we are dedicated to teaching the sport of riding through team work and understand of all horses, not just your own. Most trainers have a few lesson horses to bring students in, then convince them to buy their own horse and put it into training. That is not our focus. The best thing about running a large riding school is seeing the interaction between the students and horses. To be part of that "friendship" that evolves is magic. Every day is fun and exciting as we all work toward our goals with these beautiful and intuitive creatures.

I came to Bridges Equestrian when shopping for somewhere to take horseback riding lessons with my 7 year old daughter. They were able to accommodate me quickly and it was very easy for me to sign up over the phone although they do have an online booking site as well. We showed up and were taught by two of Ruthanna's instructors - Abby and Riley. They were very courteous and knowledgeable. I was especially impressed by their horses. They were so beautiful and well taken care of. I was also impressed by the other kids there. They all seemed like the kinds of kids that I would like my daughter to be friends with and have as role models. Since our initial experience my daughter has attended one of the camps and has really enjoyed it. We will be joining their Pony Club as well. We are so glad that we found them! Thanks Thumbtack!

I have been riding with Bridges Equestrian for over fifteen years, and I highly recommend the program for riders of any age or ability level. I began riding as an adult without any background knowledge, and due to the superior instruction of Ruthanna and Devon Bridges, I became competent enough to participate in county shows, and I have been on several riding vacations, often riding at a high intermediate or advanced level. The Bridges instructors are friendly, knowledgeable, competent, and flexible, and always know just the right horse for my needs. The barn operation is extremely well-organized, and instruction includes learning how to care for and interact with the horse as part of the riding lessons. This is an outstanding program for children AND adults. Going to the barn for my weekly lesson with Bridges is the highlight of my week.

I'd been struggling with my daughter; she was frustrated at school, every other activity we tried for her was a bust. She got kicked out of soccer, marched out of dance class, gymnastics, swimming and I had been getting calls and emails weekly for behavior issues with classmates and teachers. I read somewhere that horseback riding was a good way for kids to learn self control, get exercise, develop compassion and learn responsibility. I called and spoke to Ruthanna about getting her in lessons and about my concerns. She was sympathetic, offered me fantastic advice and we got my daughter signed up. Five weeks later, I have an entirely different child. So far she's had lessons with Lu, Lauren and Rhi and each time she's come back full of pride and confidence. They set the bar high for her and have been gently guiding her to be the best she can be. She feels safe, believed in and important. I've watched the staff not only with my child, but with other riders; they're professional, patient, compassionate and are fantastic mentors to these kids. This is, bar none, the best thing we've ever done for my child, and Bridges Equestrian stables and staff have made an enormous difference in her life. Absolutely, ride here.

Ruthanna is the MOST wonderful trainer and owner. The entire facility is incredibly well-run and all the trainers are amazing. My daughter has had the most incredible experience here and she can't wait to get back out with the horses.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Ask for references. How long have they been doing this. We have been family owned and operated since 1981, and have a fantastic base. Are all the instructors adults? What is the safety record, and what are their safety procedures? Do they require helmets of ALL riders (instructors/trainers included). If the answer is No to that one, RUN AWAY! How many horses do they have for their students? How many students to they have? What sort of programs do they offer so that their students can progress? How is this progression measured? Look for a clean, safe, comfortable environment for both the horse and rider. If their horses aren't comfortable, their riders won't be a top priority either.
