A. Make sure you get a professional Surveyor that has insurance including Workman's Comp - you don't want to be on the hook for a worker falling on your property - Make sure you get a written contract explaining what you are getting and how much it will cost ( it is required). make sure that the proper records are filed with the County Surveyor as the survey might not have legal standing without them and you gain the peer review of another surveyor - check their status on the boards website (www.pels.ca.gov/) and of course a membership with CLSA helps too.
A. I keep a lower work load, so that I am available to work on newer projects quickly - Usually I can get to a project with only a days notice
A. It is very rewarding to help people with understanding their property boundaries and resolve a dispute without involving the police or courts. Property ownership is very personal and usually is the biggest investment anyone makes
A. What are the costs for a property survey - Time is needed to research for survey maps and find a starting point for the survey. Then time in the field is needed to recover controling monuments and set new monuments for use by the client. Monuments need to be permanent and have the surveyors tag or number on it. State Law requires that a record be filed with the County Surveyors office for setting monuments. Generally a corner record is used when the property is shown on a map, recorded at the County and a Record of Survey for the rest. The costs for each are significantly different, as the Record of Survey is a map filed at the recorders office and has minimum standards which are checked by the County Surveyor - All of this invloves more time and therefore more expence - Having a property Surveyed actually adds value as a future buyer would have full knowledge of what is being sold - I would encourage any buyer to have a survey of the property done prior to the final sale, so that any discrepancies would be found
A. Surveying has a very noble past - there are references made in Egypt in 2000 BC and three of the four Presidents on Rushmore were surveyors - I'll let you do the research to find out which ones
