Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I've always been a sucker for a love story (I've been reading Nora Roberts novels since junior high), and my job provides me with an opportunity to help couples tell their story on one of the most important days of their lives. Through designing pretty invitations, signs, and other decor, or by troubleshooting issues that may arise on or before the big day, wedding planning allows me to use my creative talents to help make a couple's wedding everything they dreamed it could be. I love the challenge of using my mind in both creative and logical ways.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I do! As a member of the Association of Bridal Consultants, I am required to have at least 6 hours dedicated towards continuing education each year, but I'd do it even if it weren't required! I've always loved learning new things, and I think my varied interests, curiosity, and passion for learning contribute to making me a well-rounded wedding planner.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

I think there is a misunderstanding between what I do as a wedding planner/coordinator, and what an on-site event coordinator working for a venue will do for a couple. Essentially, the venue staff’s main function and priority is to care for the venue, not to coordinate your families, guests, and other personal details - sometimes not even other vendors. As a wedding planner, I take care of the personal elements of your event. I'll know about any guests that need special attention, personal items used for the wedding that you want tucked away safely before the night ends (especially those gifts and cards!), and I'll even call vendors a week before the event to confirm arrival times and to make sure they know to call me if they have any issues (again, taking that burden off of you). I was reading an agreement for a venue (Jacuzzi Winery, if you're interested), that had a great snippet about wedding coordinators: "The wedding coordinator has a different focus. They see to the personal details related to the ceremony (order of processional, timing, cues to musicians, etc.). The wedding coordinator will also manage the details of the reception such as timeline for dancing, toasting, seating arrangements, place cards, favors, guest book, boutonnieres and bouquets to name a few. We require that you engage a professional wedding coordinator. Their expertise will ensure that all the loose ends and details are tied together and that your day will run smoothly and on schedule. It is our experience that, in addition to eliminating the stress associated with details on the day of the wedding, the wedding coordinator will save you time and money. We believe you will find it is worth the investment." And I hope you do!
