I have taught sax, flute and clarinet for over 25 years and I have been a working professional musician for 38 years. I hold a B.A. in Music, Saxophone Performance from CSUH.
I can show you how to play any style. Learn what you've always wanted to know about music. I teach all levels, from beginners to advanced.
I teach in two locations -- I have a studio in Sebastopol, CA at People's Music and one in Santa Rosa, CA at Stanroy Music Center.

Alastair is an absolutely professional guy and has absolutely mastered his craft. After having taken saxophone lessons from him for 6 years, my competitive edge and abilities skyrocketed. I absolutely recommend his teaching.

Alastair Ingram was my first ever saxophone teacher. I remember walking into that little room in Sebastopol, California when I was eight years old. I sat myself down and began to learn not only the technique of music, but the appreciation and love of music. I give Alastair credit for so much of my musicality today, and have decided to follow music as my life's following. He has positive and critical feedback, doesn't stand for bullshit, and gives you every opportunity to find and develop that music in you. As it is for all music teachers, you get out of it exactly what you practice into it. But in my humble opinion, Alastair is everything you could ask for in a music teacher. Practice, and you shall receive.

Alastair taught me how to play alto from the ground up. He is a fantastic teacher who helps you see the big picture as well as teaching solid fundamentals. His knowledge of jazz and jazz players as well as his own skill adds to the experience.

I returned to playing sax after a 23 year hiatus and interviewed several prospective teachers. I chose Alastair because he really listened to me, met me where I was at, instead of trying to impress me with his far superior skills. I worked with him for over a year improving enough to start taking jazz improv classes at my local JC. He's really good, knows his stuff, and knows how to impart it in a way I could use it, step by step. And, he insisted on having fun with the music, not just the drudgery of practicing scales, etc. all of which however, I have found extremely useful. A great teacher all around. Enjoy.

A. Because I have 41 years of experience of professional playing.
A. Because I am involved in a creative art form and I get to do what I like to do best.
A. How long will it take me to get good on my instrument? My answer is at least 5 years but after that, it's up to you and how much time you spend at it.
