I offer lessons in woodwind, including saxophone, classical flute, traditional Celtic style wooden flute, and tin whistle.
My teaching adapts to your individual learning style.
A. My teaching style adjusts to many different learning styles (written music or learning by ear, right-brain or left-brain, etc).
My music background includes formal study in high school and university and also many years of informal performance at pub sessions and on street corners. This enriches my sound and gives it a unique, worldly flavor.
A. I love hearing my students as they progress - always more quickly than I expect! One of my students has posted a lot of her recordings on a blog, and I am very proud to share what she has done.
A. One student asked about getting fatigued while playing fast tunes, and my answer is that they should build up endurance by playing in an unstructured way, or by playing tunes very slowly. I believe fatigue comes from playing at the edge of our ability, and pulling back from that during practice can help us to get better form. Then we go back to the challenging tune at full tempo and we are able to play with fullness of expression and energy.
