A. As for me there's no common types of jobs, i basiclly tackle everything that comes in, big small heavy light unknow mysterious you name it, i'm not limiting myself to only do a certain types of jobs, but i do specialize in engine overhaul for all foreign and domestic vehicles for street or high performance racing application, especially mazda rotary engine repair such as rx7 rx8 which very little people i know that even want to lay hands on them.
A. Like i said before is hard to find a good mechanic that's trust worthy, i think by doing reserch before selecting a service provider is very important, not just looking at the prices but about there reviews that left by other people experience that had with them in the past to help make decisions such as yelp. Com and thumbtack. Com, also look them up in all the accredited bureau such as bureau of automotive and better business bureau see if they got any past history to determine if they're the right one for you.
A. I think the most impotant information to have is what you know about your car such as year, make, model, engine size, trim, country of origin like japan, usa, mexico, canada, europe and so on, is like if you buying tires you wanna to know what size wheels you have or if your window doesn't roll down is it a power window or is a manual, that just help expedite the process and being accurate by providing as much as information as possible.
A. Simply because i have very high quality standard in my workmanship, i take time to do things in fine details to eliminate any possibility for come backs, i take pride to provide the best customer satisfaction quality and service, i also provide afterhours operation by appointment to suit customer that doesn't meet the regular business hours for there convenience.
A. It is the challege that give me, always up to take on jobs that i never done before or other people won't do, to face different kind of cars peoples problems and situations everyday also help me grow along the process, by overcoming all of the above gives me satisfaction and confident of being a business owner,
A. Q: wow you work all by yourself why don't you hire somebody to help out?
A: good mechanic is hard to fine and we all know that, i will not tolerate other people to destroy my repuptation just because they can provide the same quality standard than i'm asking for.
Q: you're charging too much XXX down the street will do it cheaper?
A: the different is quality standard and customer service, is like why dealership charge so much vs indepedent, dealership use oem parts vs cheap after market parts, dealership provides pickup and dropoff at the customer convenience location vs indepedent shop won't pull there guy off a job just to give you a ride to your location, how many of you had experience in the past that needed to drop off a car but got no way of getting home without the trouble of arranging a ride or go through hours of bus ride?? i would rather pay alittle more if i didn't had to deal with these trouble and have a peace of mind time is money would you agreed??
A. Got a few, one is the customer had the car work on at a couple different shop for the same problem and no one can solve it, customer was about to giveup until they fine me out of desperation and i was able to figure it out for them, customer was very please with the result and gave me three hundred dollar more for appreciation which equal to 2/3 of the total bill wow! And another one is the customer just had a minor service done on the car and after he pickup the car and it was overheating, so he bring it back and they fix the overheating problem but now the car is making a loud poping noise from the tailpipe everytime he let off the gas padel, so he went back and forth with them and they wanna to charge him more to fix the problem that he never had before the service was done, so he fine me on the internet and came in i was able to pinpoint the problem and fix it, it all because they rig the wire for the fan to come on but disconnected a sensor for the computer that control the fuel, ended up the fan switch went bad which initially they could of replace and this problem wouldn't of never existed, often mechanic overlook things is because they engage hands before brains due to lack of automotive study and educations, i'm a big believer of engage brains before hands theory which i learn from school.
A. I been working on cars since 1989 as my hobbie, through out times i work for many different indepedent shops and dealerships until 2003 which i went to school and earn my license for being a smog technician, i also like to educate customer with theory of operation cause and effect and hopfully they can avoid problem in the future and tips on the stuff they can do themself to maintain there vehicle in troublefree conditions
A. I like to take thing apart and put them back together since i was young like bicycle, figure models and remote control cars, by then i knew i was really good with hands on stuff, i love racing so i decided to get in the automotive stuff so i can support my hobbie with knowledge and be competitive but it turns out later to be my money making skill.
A. It is a 1991 mazda rx7 that i work on, customer had a blowing engine due to water leaking inside the engine, these mazda rotary engine has a very unique design but it lacks of reliability and not too many people knows how to work on them, the customer took it to a few different mechanic and turning her down was the end result, she was depress and thinking to get another car but she love her car so much because it was pass down by her mother that has past away, it means so much sentimental value to her that she wanna fix at any cost, so she fine me on the internet and i was able to resurrect her car, she was so happy when she pickup her car she was dropping in tears, that's one of the moment i'll never forgot in my life.
A. Yes i do, matter fact i still going to school as of today since 2003, haven't been stop going ever since, as new technology and development approaching for the future, it is very important to keep up with today knowledge by going to school and learn about these new things to stay competitive in today's market, especially in this economy recession that's happening that's the only way to survive and keep my nose above water.
A. I would say it's very challenging and gets complicated, first you must have a open mind to learn and have common sense, safety is also important because you'll be working with machinery that could hurt or kill youself and other people around you, understanding mechanical operation helps alot, don't be afraid of getting dirty and cuts on your hands, it is a pretty labor intensive job and if you can't take it please look for a office job instead.
