With over a decade of teaching experience, Anand inspires students of all ages through time-tested methods delivered with contemporary scientific understanding and a playful, dynamic spirit. He can help any beginner establish a firm musical foundation through piano studies and beginning voice technique, or propel the experienced musician toward achieving new heights in vocal performance. Anand is a working musician currently involved in several projects around LA, including singing for Topanga's own Hello Forever! In pursuit of mastery of voice and breath, he earned a Bachelor of Music in Voice from Indiana University and acquired a deep understanding of complex respiratory action. As the music director at Mount Madonna School in Santa Cruz, he guided students through 15 full-scale musical productions. Also an experienced yoga teacher, Anand seeks to promote body intelligence by playing with the breath and utilizing simple yoga techniques. Anand also offers harmonium and ukulele lessons! Anand is fully vaccinated and follows CDC guidelines for the safety of his community. He spent extra time with me on my orientation because it was easy to talk to him and get lost in the learning process, with as passionate as he is about singing. I am an amateur baritone who has always had trouble in the top of my range. He identified the problem and in the first lesson got me singing 3 notes higher than I ever had and with good tone. We are moving on to more accomplishments. Since he is also a baritone he knows my problems.

We have struck literal harmonic GOLD! Anand began teaching both of my daughters (ages 11, 15) voice and piano lessons over the summer. Although we started out online, we were immediately excited for their music lessons with him. He is spirited, possessing a vast knowledge of the voice, body posturing, breathing techniques and music theory. We are lucky enough to live in the same town so we now have weekly in person lessons in our home for both of our daughters. He is encouraging in an authentic and enthusiastic way, it’s so wonderful to see them transform and growing into their passion for music and their overall understanding. He makes wonderful suggestions to help them find more breath or when to articulate a phrase. It’s whimsical to listen to the giggles and singing in the house. I feel like they are getting so much more than just “music theory or technical understanding”. It’s an embodiment of sorts and Anand has such an intuitive understanding of what it takes to unveil the true voice. We love him and I know you will too.

Prices change based on my travel time! Ask for the rate for your zip code. Discounts: -Referrals are the highest compliment! Receive a free session of your desired length/ number of participants when a referral purchases a session or package with me. -Ask for an introductory rate for our first meeting to see if we're a good fit!
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It all starts with a conversation! I'll have plenty of questions for you about your inspirations, goals, experience and history, and interests. For voice students, our fist few sessions lean a little more toward vocalizing and exploring the foundations of vocal technique: breath, posture, and resonance. After I have introduced those basic ideas, then we start to work those principles into the repertoire that calls to you. For piano students, I meet you where you're at! We'll find appropriate material that will challenge you, and I'll help you establish efficient and fun practice methods.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been studying music for my whole life, and I have been incredibly lucky to have had the best teachers in the world. I have been singing in choirs since I was 9; I studied piano from the 7th grade through the end of my Bachelor's degree; and I have a degree in Vocal Performance (Bachelor of Music) from Indiana University, a school well known for its voice program. However, none of that would be relevant if not for my 10 years of experience as a camp counselor or my 6 years of teaching at a small private school in Santa Cruz. Through those experiences, I've developed a capacity to work with kids of any age/skill level; as well a dedication to helping my adult students not take themselves so seriously and just have a good time!
