Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Make sure to hire a lawyer who won't just tell you what you want to hear. Some lawyers promise their clients significant monetary compensation which only leads to disappointment. Make sure your attorney gives you all the facts...the good, the bad, and the ugly!
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. Using a lawyer's assistance in every personal injury case is not necessarily a good thing. Sometimes, I tell my clients they'd be better off without my assistance. If a case is worth very little, it doesn't make sense to involve a lawyer who will typically take 1/3 of your recovery as his/her fee. Discuss the pros and cons with an honest lawyer who will talk straight.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. I think you should ask the attorney what can go "wrong" with your case. Many lawyers are very eager to only tell you the potential positive outcomes of your case. A good attorney should advise you of the potential pitfalls of your case as well. Lawyers should be realistic with their clients.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. I enjoy talking to clients and helping them understand the law. I strongly believe that clients must be involved in the decision-making process. I view the attorney-client relationship as a team effort.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. I really enjoy "demystifying" the law to my clients. Oftentimes, my clients tell me I have a very good ability to explain the law in a very understandable way. Litigation and other areas of law like estate planning can be very complicated and confusing. A good lawyer can make things very easy to understand.
Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?
A. Being a former defense lawyer for the insurance companies, I found it natural to represent victims of serious accidents. I was very well aware of what insurance companies find legitimate and what makes them suspicious. I won't take a case if I feel a client is trying to turn their accident into a money-making venture. This is not about getting rich or winning the lottery - it's about fair compensation given the facts and the law.
