When is a building permit required?
Any owner or authorized agent who intends to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish, or change the occupancy of a building or structure, or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system, the installation of which is regulated by the California Building Code (CBC), California Mechanical Code (CMC), California Plumbing Code (CPC), California Fire Code (CFC), the California Electric Code (CEC), or the California Energy Code (CEC), or to cause any such work to be done, shall first make application to the Building Official and obtain the required permit.

Do I need a building permit to install a Portable Hot Tub?
Yes. A permit is required for the electrical supply to the spa or hot tub and also so that state required pool and spa barriers can be inspected.

Do I need a building permit to install an attached patio cover, enclosed patio or solarium?
Yes.

What work is exempted from building permit requirements?
Exemptions from permit requirements of the codes shall not be deemed to grant authorization for any work to be done in any manner in violation of the provisions of this code or any other laws or ordinances of Solano County. Permits shall not be required for the following:
One-story detached accessory structures used as tool and storage sheds, playhouses and similar uses, provided the floor area does not exceed 120 square feet.
Fences not over 6 feet high.
Oil derricks.
Retaining walls that are not over 4 feet in height measured from the bottom of the footing to the top of the wall, unless supporting a surcharge or impounding Class I, II or III-A liquids.
Water tanks supported directly on grade if the capacity does not exceed 5,000 gallons and the ratio of the height to diameter or width does not exceed 2:1. Any piping and/or electrical to or from the tank requires a permit.
Sidewalks and driveways not more than 30 inches above adjacent grade, and not over any basement or story below and are not part of an accessible route.
Painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, cabinets, countertops and similar finish work.
Temporary motion picture, television and theater stage sets and scenery.
Prefabricated swimming pools accessory to a Group R-3 Occupancy (Single Family Dwelling) that are less than 24 inches deep, do not exceed 5,000 gallons and are installed entirely above ground.
Shade cloth structures constructed for nursery or agricultural purposes, not including service systems.
Swings and other playground equipment accessory to detached one- and two-family dwellings.
Window awnings supported by an exterior wall that do not project more than 54 inshes from the exterior wall and do not require additional support of Group R-3 (Single Family Dwelling) and U (Garages or Agricultural Structures) occupancies.
Nonfixed and movable fixtures, cases, racks, counters and partitions not over 5 feet 9 inches in height. Counters for commercial or industrial operations require permits.
Separate plumbing, electrical and mechanical permits will be required for the above-exempted items.

A. that I can't do any work that exceeds $500 for I'm not a Licensed Contractor

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I back my work up with a Guarantee if it don't please you I wont stop until it's done with no extra charge and it's done the way you want and I will tell you if I can or can not do the work if I have no experience in the type of work you want done I will refer you to the specialist that can !

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. That's it's fun to fix and repair all type of thing's and see the work completed and done right and find somthing new and learn to pick up another type of job duty

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. how much do you charge ? I have A Min of $25.00 on all small repairs unless there a more than one then the cost go's down like if there is two or three little 5 Minute jobs they will be $5-$10-$15 per repair and depending on type of repair !

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. I worked for this lady that wanted new door's installed because this guy she had working for her had ripped the old door's out and all she wanted to have done was take off the trim and door facing not remove the door's and the jams he did that and hauled off the door's so she went out to home depot and bought six H/C pre hung doors and I installed six doors for her

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. that I'm reasonable and wont ditch you like some of the guys I see on Holmes on Homes !

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. ever since I was a Kid there were Handymen in My Family my Grandfather's and Uncle's and Father had either built Homes and Engineered Building's and DIY (do it your self) and I learned Dry wall and painting and plumbing from my Father and from books also in shop classes in High school and College with Metals Industries technology metal Fabrication light iron work including sweating copper pipe and gas welding and ark welding and GMAW GTAW !

A. Fixed and textured wall's door knob holes painted door with a roller texture and premixed compound

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I just bought some book's to help me stay updated with pricing and plumbing and electrical work

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. I have a new Partner he does Kitchen Cabinets and has a see threw window cleaning service and he is also a Handyman his Name Is Ken we did a redwood Deck together and Also now a new Ridgid portable table saw bought from Home Depot we just got threw with a fence restoration used some new and used materials to save customer Money and I have United Specialty Liability Insurance !

A. installed a new oven hood with light and fan I charged $25.00 it took 45 min

A. Tool's transportation and skill's you need all of these!

answer : measure twice and cut once !
