A. Clubs/Restaurant, Corporate Events, Weddings, Private Parties, Community Events

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. The musicians you are hiring are professionals, and work very hard to perfect their craft. Silk's musicians have years of experience and have a wide ranging repertoire. This is what we do to make a living. It's not a hobby.

Inside trade secret: Be sure to clearly provide your expectations to the band. Communication is key.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. In order for us to give you a proper estimate, you should be prepared to provide the following information:
Date & Time of Event
Number of Guests
Venue Size & Electrical Power Access
Lighting needs
Budget
Special Requests

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Debora Galan & Silk have an international flair. Besides singing in a variety of languages, we play something for everyone--whether it's a swinging Jazz standard, a romantic ballad, some funky grooves, or some rhythmic Latin beat.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Making people feel something through music--it's all about heart connection. We love to see the expression on people's faces when they hear a song they like or remember from a special time in their life (like a father-daughter dance, or a first-dance); we like to create memorable moments for people.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Question: Can I afford you?
The answer: Absolutely! We are professionals and understand that everyone's budget is different, but that doesn't mean that you can't have quality live music. We work with clients to try to give them the best service possible for what they can afford. If it means changing up the configuration to make it more affordable, then we can do that.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. The amount of time invested by musicians to provide quality entertainment. It doesn't just start on the first click of the first song, for musicians there is investment of time in learning music, practicing, equipment; all of these are important and say a great deal about the quality of service you will receive.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. Debora sort of stumbled into singing professionally at the age of 17. She was working in a club when the owner asked her to step onto the stage and sing a song in order to encourage other volunteers to participate in a Star Search-type show. She always liked to sing, and until that time never realize how well received she would be. This was the start of her musical career.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. Del Mar Taste & Art Stroll, a fundraising event for the Del Mar Village Association. We had a great showing and lots of very positive feedback!

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. When hiring a band the amount of time required to set up and do sound checks, doesn't always happen in sequential hours. For example, some venues require the musicians to be set up and do a sound check hours before the actual event. These types of details are important as they can affect the price.
