My name is Herbert W. Pender III. I have been doing general remodelling for the past 28 years, and I had a contractors license up until 2003, however, the license is not current.
I have all of my own tools, every tool needed for any aspect in construction, i.e.: carpentry(all), framing (ground up), decking (wood, composition), doors (slab and pre-hung), plumbing (new to remodel), electrical (new to remodel), concrete, flooring, fine finish work, stucco, brick, block, drywall, textures, cabinets, hvac, counter tops (all types) and all and everything from A-Z.
I have dependable transportation, two full-size vans and trailers. I can give references. I can give pictures of work I have done. I am trustworthy to a fault and a very hard worker.
America and Americans bless God first, then He may bless us again. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and soul, and do not lean on your own understanding.

1st = And foremost check out there references both past and present.
2nd = Get at least three bids.
3rd = Make sure that you compare apples with apples and oranges with oranges.
4th = Ask questions about your project, a good contactor will listen to you more than talk and will give you other options as to material and methods, so that when you make a decision, it will be based on all the information.
5th = Make sure that the type (particle board vs. MDF = medium density fiber), manufacture (Behr paint vs. low grade paint) and quantity of the material (the waste factor) is very well spelled out
6th = The time factor: The starting date and the completion date: Will the contractor be working on just your project, or will they be working a few hours at yours and then go to another project, that should not be acceptable, except for any job that involves concrete or drywall.
7th = An hourly rate may be the way to go, but affirm prices is always better
A. Looking for a contractor is easy, there are many out there, but finding one that is good, now that is a challenge. In my trade A-Z if I look at the persons tools, that will tell me a lot about the person that I am dealing with, a plumber would have a lot of special tools as would an electrician, and a framer would have less tools than a finished carpenter, as for me, I have all of the tools to do the A-Z. a contactor that just does what you want without giving you other options as to the material and methods is a contractor that I would be very weary about. Oh as far as inside secrets, here is the only one I can share (years of Experience )
A. How long in business, References, References, References, References, both past and present. In addition, make sure that you call them, too often; consumer’s will get references and never call them.
Have they done this type of project before, how long did it take, were you able to keep the project at the time and budget that was set for it. Will I receive a complete list of the quantity of material, will I receive a period for the completion of each phase of the project. Check the references that will apply to the same type of project as yours.
