Introduction: The most recurrent comment I get from students is "I wish you were my teacher." The biggest compliment I received from a parent was that I brought calm to the household because now all her girls were doing well in math. The anxious conversations about school at the dinner table just disappeared. And the most common remark I get from parents is "I appreciate your flexibility in scheduling." I offer high quality, affordable, one-to-one, online tutoring, without contracts or minimum use agreements. I use effective teaching techniques that I learned from my Stanford and San Jose State professors, teachers & tutors, and even students. I reteach material; this means students don't have to learn yet another new way of completing the problem. I just clarify what the teacher has already taught. I have a direct and balanced style of teaching. I welcome every question, help when help is needed, encourage self-learning when the student becomes overly dependent on tutoring. I help students manage their time and resources for test preparation.

If you want to gain a clearer understanding of statistics, Mostly Math Tutoring Services is the place to go! I attend CSU East Bay and have used Mostly Maths services for several years. I refuse to go anywhere else for help. Not only did I get exceptional help in statistics, but they also provided assistance with the SPSS (statistics) program taught at CSU when no one on campus could. I have tried using onsite (college campus) tutors to no avail. I hold Mostly Math Tutoring Services to the highest standard of excellence in (mathematics and statistics) education.

I just finish four semesters of math at DVC and now I am transferring to CSU. I can honestly say that I could not have done this without Monica at My Neighborhood Tutor. She is very knowledgeable and extremely patient. She walked me through each step of the problems that I had trouble with and more importantly, explained the concepts in plain language so that I could understand how they work. Although I have worked with other tutors, Monica is by far the best and stands out as one that has a passion for her work. I never felt rushed and she truly cares about this subject. I would recommend her to anyone.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricing varies from free to $85/session, depending on length of session and tutoring location. Home service is our highest level of service and includes extraordinary feedback to students, tips for success, curriculum development, extensive contact with parents, if requested, and more. Time Bank members pay $0.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Prior to the first session, I gather information regarding the reasons that the student is struggling. I advise the student on how to prepare for the first session. During the first session, we use 5 minutes to discuss expectations and goals. Then we jump into the homework. After the first session, I report to the parent.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I remain current in the field of math and statistics education. I: (1) Remain an active member in American Statistical Association, including the Statistical Education Section (2) Attend seminars on math education, and (3) Read books and leading websites relating to math/statistics and teaching math/statistics, and (4) Write and review articles on teaching statistics.
