I work with individual clients for a multitude of issues, such as motivation, weight reduction, smoking cessation, pain management (w/ doctor referral for pain management), fertility, childbirth preparation, whatever is needed to help the client reach their desired goals.
I also train individuals looking to enhance their practices, or start a new career as a certified hypnotherapist. I teach Roy Hunter's "Diversified Client-Centered Hypnotherapist" training course, which is one of only a few college-accepted curriculums.
Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Ask about the hypnotherapist's training and how long they have been practicing. The NGH guidelines suggest a hypnotherapist should have taken at least 100+ hours of training. There are people calling themselves hypnotherapists after taking only a weekend seninar or a one week intensive training that have little or no experience working with actual clients. It is also beneficial to know if the hypnotist specializes in any particular areas and how much expertise they have in working with that particular client's issue. The hypnotherapist should discuss their fees over the phone before making the first appointment. The client should also ask if self-hypnosis is taught so that the client can re-enforce the benefits of their sessions.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. That hypnosis is not a miracle cure however, when someone is ready for change, they can get miraculous results. A good hypnotherapist does not "solve or fix" an issue for anyone but rather, shows the client how quickly and easy it is to utilize the tremendous power within themselves to effect the desired changes and/or goals. Their are absolutely no limits as to what can be accomplished when a client is motivated and seeks out a well trained, experienced hypnotherapist. Most of us know that change must come from within however we don't realize how easy that change can be when properly facilitated.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. Where did the hypnotherapist receive their training and how long was the course?
What additional training have you received?
How long have you been working with clients.
Do you have any referrals?
Can you guarantee hypnosis will work for me and my specific issue? (If anyone answers yes to this one--keep looking for another hypnotherapist).
How many sessions will I need? (Everyone is different and to suggest a set amount of sessions for anything is not realistic. Some people only need one visit where others may need several. It is up to the individual).
If the client is looking for help with a medical condition or pain management, then a good hypnotherapist will always ask for a doctor referral before working with the client, (unless the hypnotherapist happens to be a doctor of course).
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. There are so many misconceptions and fallacies regarding hypnosis and hypnotherapy. A lot of information can be found on the internet but that doesn't mean the information is correct or completely accurate. I suggest doing some research which will both enlighten the client as well as create questions the client will want answered. Then make the phone call and get those questions answered to your satisfaction. The client should have a good feeling regarding the hypnotherapist by the time the first appointment is made. If it is an office where a receptionist is taking the calls, he/she should be able to answer most of the questions I referred to above. If you are not satisfied, then ask to speak with the hypnotherapist directly after most of your other questions have been answered. Expect to have to be called back as the hypnotherapist may be in with another client.
