Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. It is just as important (if not more so), to hire me for a consultation *prior* to your equipment purchase. All too often, I am brought in after the fact and must then work within the confines of the system(s) that were selected. It is vastly simpler (and cheaper!) to work out any issues on paper - before your options become limited by actual hardware or software.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. Be extremely wary of individuals who strongly emphasize all their industry certifications! I made the decision long ago to avoid obtaining any industry certifications for mainly two reasons: 1. After taking all the courses for a popular industry certification, the instructor told us how and where to *purchase* the *test answers* and then taught us a *memorization strategy* in order to pass the test. 2. I have personally had too many bad experiences with prospective new hires who prominently displayed their industry certifications on their resumes but then could not pass a rudimentary technical screening test I would give to all job candidates. Therefore, I give no credence to someone with a bunch of letters after their name, I can tell if someone is qualified or not during the course of a half hour conversation and then go with my gut.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. While I have deep & broad experience in business computer systems, I specialize in studio-based computers, audio capture interfaces, midi control surfaces and other peripherals found only in an audio recording environment. There are very special condsiderations when working with this kind of equipment. Be sure and ask any potential service providers if they are experienced with *studio-based* systems to ensure you receive a positive result.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. In addition to having the appropriate education & experience to successfully design, setup, repair and/or train you on your studio-based systems; I have been *utilizing* this equipment since the early 1980's in my own music creation edeavors. This gives me the benefit of a dual-perspective to identify and understand the issues as both user and engineer/technician.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. I could tell you that I most enjoy the immense satisifaction that comes from enabling others to fulfill their musical dreams, but in reality I just love playing with all the gadgets!
Q. What is your greatest strength?
A. This one's easy. My greatest ability by far is in problem solving. This one area draws upon all my other abilities as well as all my experiences. It is the sum total of everything I know, everything I can do and everything I have done. I especially enjoy solving those problems that were said to be *impossible* by others!
