I've been working professionally for 14 years, with 18 years experience in the field.
A. Feel comfortable with the person you hire. They will be in your home and around your family; maybe for a few days, a few weeks, or even months if you are doing extensive work.
A professional finisher will create custom samples for you, and have a portfolio of finishes.
A finisher who asks lots of questions will be the finisher who will provide a finish for you that will fit your style and your lifestyle.
A. Think of decorative painting and faux finishing as part of the architecture. If you are building or remodeling, talk to your finisher early in the process. They will help design your space, work with you and/or your interior designer. Certain finishes require smooth walls, you can have the finish you want AND save money.
Pricing varies greatly with the finishes and environment. Factors that affect pricing are: complexity of the finish (how many layers, textures, etc.), room design, is it ceilings or walls? etc. For these reasons it is practically impossible to give "ballpark" pricing over the phone.
Finishes most often require a specific base coat. Talk to your finisher before you paint, you can save time and headache by doing this.
A. What is your budget? Even if you haven't had this type of work done before, knowing how much you want to spend on the space will allow your finisher to work with you to choose a finish you love that is appropriate for your budget.
What other work are you having done in the space? knowing that will help to create a logical project plan. There is some work that should be done before decorative painting (like tile work) and some work that is logical to have done afterwards (like new carpet). And some work shouldn't be done simultaneously in the same area.
What are your time constraints? Are you working around an event deadline?
A. My work is globally inspired, and most likely, I've traveled to the places that inspire you. My specialty is Asian inspired finishes.
Unlike other finishers who want to create the latest trends. I will ask the right questions to find out what your style is, what soothes you, what invigorates you, and what you are striving to create in your space, to create a finish that is timeless and has ageless appeal for you.
I work to create a home where you feel joy and happiness, so you can go out in the world and make your difference.
A. I love working with my clients to create a space that they love.
A home is a place that shelters you and nurtures you. I also want to help you make it a place that inspires you, soothes you and energizes you, so you can go out and make your difference in the world.
A. Amos:
I was working in a home with quite a few friendly pets. Amos, the border collie, James the terrier, and a couple of cats. Amos was the friendliest of them all, and would occasionally come by for a pat on the head. During the project I kept coming up short of a particular kind of brush. I knew I had packed all my materials and brushes, after all, I have a list and I check it twice. But I kept coming up short on that brush and I couldn't figure out why. I saw them there a minute ago.... Then after giving Amos a loving pat on the head after he wandered by one time, I looked down and saw him, satisfied and walking away.....with my brush in his mouth!
A. Every project I work on is unique to each client. Factors that affect project pricing are: what finish you want (how many layers, texture or smooth, mural or finish), surface of the walls, high spaces or tight fits, ceiling or walls....
It is best for me to see the space, I may see variables that will affect the job, that you may not notice.
If you have several spaces that you want a finish in, it may make sense to schedule them at the same time to be most efficient and price wise.
