Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. I mostly do small service calls. Water Heaters, water filters, leaking pipes, etc.
I like to do most is provide customers with clean safe water more then anything else.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Home owners should find a plumber they like and trust. They should treat them like family. Even give them a key to their house to be able to fix things when they are not home. Introduce them to the kids and pets. Tell the neighbors.I like to call them "Your Local Trusted Family Plumber.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. It takes many years of practice to get to be a great plumber. It is not as easy as the Cheapo Depo's want you to believe. Just the tools on our trucks cost thousands of dollars.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Not all plumbers are the same and not all plumbing companies are the same either.
It is always best to find a local plumber with a small company. Our prices are less. You have to remember, the customer pays for everything! If the company has high overhead their prices will be much higher.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I believe that honesty and integrity are more important then knowledge. When you have honesty as your guide you will let the customer know if the job is something you can handle. Integrity helps you protect the customers home and valuables and charge the proper price that is beneficial for all parties involved.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. After 39 years of being in the mechanical trades I have forgotten more then most plumbers currently know. Because of that I like to be able to diagnose what the problems are before I start to tear things apart.
I am not happy when my diagnoses is wrong!

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Customers don't ask enough questions. Because of that I end up talking to much.
I think it would be better if the customers would ask more questions.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. After 39 years and 5 different State plumbing license's, over 18,000 jobs I have more stories then I can count.
To many to remember.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. I have yet to have a customer that realizes how expensive it is to run a service business like this.
We do not make what we charge, we pay our bills first.
Most the time we are lucky to make 10% profit.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. My Dad was a Plumber and he did well so I thought I would also do it. I was always good at mechanical work.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. The best news is the new WaterCrest-10 whole house water filter. It filters better then any other filter on the market and is more affordable then any before it. You can see it on my website. http://www.waterchoices.com
My next favorite product is the whole house automatic water shut off valve. It will shut your water off if it detects a water leak.

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. Some companies try to lure you in with a small "Trip Charge" to get you to call them but then have outrageous prices after they are in your house.
I charge $130 for the first hour and that includes travel.
$50 for every 1/2 hour after that. Most jobs are done in less then 2 hours. Plus parts of course.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. It's a great profession. Start with new construction first. That give you a firm knowledge of how buildings are built.
After 2 years in the business you can have a job for life and go where you will.

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. Q, If I have a water leak in my house how do I know where to shut the water off.

A, Everyone in your home should know how to shut the water off. In Colorado every house is different so please take the time to find it and show others how it works.

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. Q, I seem to have a drain line problem because I have to call a plumber once a year. What can I do to help my drain lines?

A, Using Bio Clean on a regular basis will help keep your drain lines clean and odor free.
