Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Let's face it. Times are tight and money, although a renewable resource, is hard won and people need to be careful where they spend it. Creating a quality promotional video can be a time consuming process involving thousands of dollars of equipment and training. Therefore video can be a costly investment. I see many providers promising quality productions for a fraction of the cost and it is clear to me that they are not making much money.

As a consumer the potential issues might be your provider will produce a low quality product, or a product that is cookie cutter. They may be short on work and willing to work for cheap and a good paying project will quickly divert their attention from your project. These are issues that may end up costing more than the original budget of the project.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. There are virtually endless options available to consumers in terms of providers and creative productions each provider can create. From a consumer perspective it has to be paralyzing to face many options, all risky and very expensive.

Many customers do not understand just how much work goes into video production and just how very valuable a quality production can be to augment their marketing efforts.

Unfortunately, there aren't any big secrets to overcome this challenge. The best thing is to do your homework on the agency you are considering and get educated on the work they are going to provide. You may engage the agency on a smaller project and see how they perform. Then as they gain your trust, you can trust them with bigger projects.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Tell me about your professional experience.

Tell me about your success with projects similar to the one I'm considering.

What risks do you see for me with the project I'm considering?
