I am servicing Denver, CO.

My name is Dustin Adams, and I have been teaching music lessons to people of all ages and abilities, from absolute beginners to seasoned professionals since 2006. I have taught 100+ students, many of whom continued to study with me for several years. Some of my students have become professional musicians themselves!

Music lessons are customized according to each individual's level of ability, musical preference, and personal goals. Lessons are $20 per half-hour session. Most people take one weekly 30-minute lesson, all ages.

Piano Lessons

I am a gigging jazz pianist who performs with a variety of groups including my own. I bring real world performance experience to the lessons, to help every student achieve their musical goals.

* Learn how to play, read, and write piano music! That's why you are here, right?
* Learn improvisation skills in a variety of styles (jazz, rock, blues, R&B, etc.).
* Learn classical and popular music. Many students have come to me from other teachers who only taught classical music. As a result, they were frustrated with their lessons and ready to find another teacher, or give up lessons altogether. I work with each student to customize the lessons to fit their personal music goals and preferences.
* Learn how to read and play from lead sheets. This is useful for performing with jazz, rock, pop, church, country groups, etc.

Drum Set and Percussion Lessons

In addition to being a pianist, I have also been playing and performing as a drummer and percussionist for 15 years.

* Learn how to play a variety of drum set grooves and styles including rock, jazz, funk, Latin, world, and more!
* Learn how to read and write drum notation. If you can read music, you can continue to teach yourself literally for the rest of your life!
* Develop your drumming technique. Stick control, rudiments, working with a click track (metronome).
* Learn four-way drum set coordination, independence, and economy of motion.
* Learn principles of effective and efficient practice.
* Learn about drum tuning and equipment-related topics.
* Learn how to play polyrhythms, odd time signatures, and metric modulation.
* Advanced topics, and more!

Guitar and Bass Lessons

* Learn how to read, write, and play guitar and bass music tablature and standard music notation. It's not as difficult as you may think although like any skill, it does take practice!
* Learn your scales and chords!
* Learn picking and finger-style techniques.
* Learn how to read and interpret lead sheets. This skill is useful for performing with jazz, rock, pop, church, country groups, etc.
* Learn improvisation skills in a variety of musical styles (jazz, rock, blues, R&B, etc.).

Miscellaneous Topics

I bring a wide variety of musical experiences and disciplines to the lessons that I teach, including but not limited to:

* Music composition
* Recording techniques
* Jazz and classical music theory
* Music business and marketing
* Ethnomusicology
