About Wicked Locks

hired 25 times on Thumbtack

My name is Holly, I specialize in dreadlocks, and I have worked with clients of every ethnicity. I have been doing hair professionally for over a decade now, and became obsessed with dreadlocks in 2007.

I have developed my own techniques for starting and maintaining dreadlocks on hair that is straight-medium curly. I do not use product on these hair types.

I work with synthetic dreadlocks as well as human hair, for temporary dread looks.

After receiving an education in hair, I studied at Glauca Rossi School of Fashion and Photographic Make Up in London UK. I adore working on photo shoots and runway shows. My hair and make up designs were featured in the October 2010 issue of Bizarre Magazine. I've also styled for photoshoots for local jewelry designer Andrea Li, and I often work with the photography department at the Colorado Art Institute.

I GOT LICE FROM THIS PLACE. This place should be shut down. I once asked Holly if she has ever found bugs in someone's locks. She told me that she has found lice and that she didn't even tell the guy. She said she felt bad about it but the point is, I then got lice from this place on another visit. Holly is unprofessional. Dreads are associated with things much of society looks down upon. Dreadlocks are often associated with being dirty which we all know, is NOT true. The last thing someone wants, is to go get their locks maintained and then get f***ing lice. I am from Nebraska and will have to go out of my way to find another place that does dreadlock maintainance for a decent price or just learn how to maintain them myself and do as good a job. I feel the need to take time out of my day to warn you guys about this place. Beware.

In town to attend my daughter's wedding and needed my five year old dreadlocks freshened/tightened up (u know those darn loose ends and merged dreads) in just two hours she accomplished far more and far better results than another 'professional' did in 8 hours a year ago. I will definitely be a returning client!

Excellent and VERY quick hair stylist. When it comes to dreadlocks and the all natural way, Holly knows exactly what she is doing and also makes the locks neat and tight, yet comfortable, giving room to form, grow and develop. The whole process was not in the slightest bit painful and I love that no products are used. Her fee was $50 for maintence on the locks that have been there due to hair neglect and $50/hr for locking up the rest of the undreaded hair. In no time (2 hours) I was in and out. I recommend Holly to anyone who is considering dreadlocking there hair and wanting a natural/maintained look. Her service is great, she's friendly person to work with and most importantly I am very happy with the outcome!

Holly is a fabulous loctician and very passionate about her work. I came to her with dreadlocks very short (about 4 inches or less!) because of a bad hair bleach accident and I had lost my hair. Well, Holly spent about 8 hours meticulously and professionally dreading my real hair again and adding long dreadlock extensions. She was busy the whole time-she did not waste a moment. I had fabulous dreadlocks once again and they were longer and more beautiful than my original dreads I had done myself! Every dreadlock on my head was in perfect condition and very much already locked! I have since been to her one other time (I'd go more if I possibly could!) and she worked with me so that I could get my dreadlocks done even though she had to put in extra work on her own time! Her intro on her website is absolutely correct and then some! Holly is super sweet and awesome to talk with. I'd like to see her again not just for dreadlock maintanence but for makeup application as well! She answers questions honestly and listens intently to how you would like your hair/dreadlocks done and follows through! Holly is able to make/maintain/extend dreadlocks very well and at excellent prices! Not to mention she is an absolute professional and she is absolutely fabulous! :)

Question and answer

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Dreadlocks are all about patience, I have developed techniques that promote tidy, clean dreads, but it takes time to achieve the tight matted look of mature dreadlocks.

Hair needs to be a minimum of 4 inchs long (straight- medium curly textures) to start Dreadlocks.

Dreadlocks can be started on hair as short as 1 inch for kinky curly textured hair.

I recommend washing your hair every 7-10 days the first year, if you wash more frequently then that I suggest weening yourself off of your beloved sulphates before the Big day.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. First of all, I am a very patient and detailed person. I have spent countless hours studying and working with dreadlocks. I have tried many ways of dreading, though now I primarily use a backcomb technique with a micro latch and crochet hook to create strong neat locks. I am also *very* particular about the technique i use with a crochet hook. There is absolutely no 'stabby stabby'

Secondly I do not use any products, such as wax or perm, to start or maintain dreads. I find that in my experience wax's don't really help the dreading process, and perms are unnecessarily damaging.

The technique I use both tidy's up all the loose hairs from the base to the tip of the lock, while creating a chain of your own hair within the dread to give it strength. This also makes the base feel tighter and promotes your hair to lock up naturally.

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. Dreadlock Start-up: $250 first 3 hours $50/hour after that

Dreadlock Maintenance: $60

Dread Extensions: Must have consultation and deposit for hair, starts at $300 plus $150 deposit
